Darling Husband and I are hoping to move out of state within the next year. We want to buy a house very soon. We are sick of paying high rent on a townhouse and would love to take advantage of the rock bottom prices before they start going back up. I would like Darling Husband to get a job transfer and have us temporarily move into a small apartment while we do our house search. He does not want to waste the money to get into a rental, deposits etc when we could just buy a house.
Has anyone been through the process of buying out of state? I’m afraid we are going to be paying a ton of money taking trips there to look at houses. Then if we put in an offer and it falls through we’re back at square one taking another trip down there. I do see his point about renting not making sense though. We have 2 large dogs so deposits will be high and we don’t want to be on a lease. I’m also afraid if we don’t act soon that prices will start rising. We are currently looking at suburbs of Phoenix, AZ where you can get a 2000 sq ft+ home built within the last 5 years, 2 story, huge yard, very nice for under 100k. It’s ridiculous cheap. We couldn’t get a shack here for that. We can afford to spend a lot more but this way I can continue to be a Stay-At-Home Mom, we can send our daughter to private school, take vacations or pay more on the mortgage every month. I am so freaking excited about getting a gorgeous house for that cheap and there are thousands of them down there right now. A lot but not all are short sales though, will that process be a nightmare from out of state? Any advice home savy bees?
