i’ve put a scary number of hours into online hunting for my dress and i’m coming up empty…but i feel like it has to be out there. I want something very simple that would go with a casual/rustic sort of wedding. I want an a-line dress made with a light material (ie not taffeta), a sweetheart top (i love that crisscross-y look), no pick-ups, no beading or bejazzlement, and structured enough that i look skinny and not like i’m wearing a nightdress– and i don’t want to spend anything more than 1300. it seems that the affordable dress lines all have lots of beading and whatnot, if you want simplicity you have to spend a lot of money. but maybe i just haven’t seen it and one of you knowledgeable bees have? has anyone run across something like this in their dress hunts? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I have similar criteria! And it is definitely hard to find on a budget; I will be watching this thread. So far, the closest I have found comes only in white and does not have a train (I want ivory with a train haha); I figure the top would be easy enough to have altered to sweetheart, especially for that price.
Aria has some simple un-bedazzled designs that might work for you; I think the silk shantung might be nice for what you describe.
danadelphia was considering this Jenny Yoo bridesmaid dress, which comes in white.
This J Crew gown is cotton!
(My ultimate goal is to have a plain organza skirt and a lace top, so I am looking at a-line, sweetheart neckline dresses that I can put a lace bolero over.)
Good luck, and keep us posted if you find something.

have you looked at the cosmobella line? my dress is from there, it’s a-line, has a rouched middle, and only a thin strip of beading around my waist. the fabric is much lighter than any of the other dresses i tried on too, even though it’s satin.
my dress was just above $800.
you should check them out.

Hi, I’m actually trying to sell my gown that I purchased when I first got engaged, out of the excitement! Still has tags on it, never altered. And although it’s a beautiful gown I’ve decided on a totally different look now. I’m just letting you know since it sounds similar to what you’re describing. Simple a line, sweetheart neckline. Just thought I’d let you check it out. Just posted it on ebay:) Let me know if you like it:) Good luck on finding your dream dress!!!

I totally agree with amaryllis on th Aria dress…I tried that specific one on in the silk shantung and I loved the simplicity of it. It was very flattering!

hm…jasmine bridal says on their website that they allow you to alter their dresses to make them exactly what you want…so in theory i could pick one that i like and just ask them to leave off all of the beading and such. i like this one: jasmine. has anyone done this? it would work out well since i’m also five feet tall and i could ask for a shorter length while i’m at it…
