My doctor recommended pure vitamin E oil when I had surgery, though. It definitely heped fade the scars I had. But i haven’t used mederma.

I have tried it for scars and it really doesn’t do much.  It just slightly increases the natrual process.  Naturally your scars will fade with time.  I had surgery back in December and didn’t treat the scars but they are almost completely gone now.

With older scars, mederma probably won’t work.  You might want to talk to a dermatologist about it.  I have a raised burn scar on my wrist from middle school that will never go away unless I have it surgically removed.  Not sure if it’s worth that though.

i had several moles removed over the years and always used Merderma to help the scars fade faster and lessen the raising of the scar (my scars are keloid usually) I found it very effective.

I found this site of other products which may also help. here

My MIL’s doctor recommended straight Vitamin E on her scar from her Mohs surgery.  He didn’t like any of the scar treatments out there.

I think all Mederma really does is keep it moist, which things like Vitamin E would do as well. I’ve used Mederma and I wasn’t terribly impressed with it.
