Are you sure your hotel doesn’t have shuttles? The hotels that my guests are staying at are getting back to the hotel from the reception on the hotel shuttles.

I didn’t use UBER events but I gave my uber code for guests to use to come to and get home from the ceremony/reception. It was great!

We’re thinking of doing this too! Would love to hear more if you decide to do it!

ETA: I can’t read, apparently. Our wedding is actually before yours so we may have to learn this on our own. Anyway, if you make progress on this in the near future, I’d love to hear about it!

My biggest concern with Uber is that if all your guests are requesting at once, there may not be enough drivers in the area to get them all there on time. It might work if you could stagger them, but I think that would be too difficult for that many people. I went to a wedding in Germany last year where the bride arranged for taxis to be waiting outside the church to take us to the reception, and even that was a bit of a beast to sort out (who was riding with who, etc).

What about a school bus? Or find a friend who has their CDL and rent them a bus?

We booked a shuttle for guests staying at hotels. Guests that lived locally and had too much to drink hired Ubber themselves apparently

petitebee08:  Are your hotels and/or your venue in downtown Chicago?  Our hotel was, and so our guests just cabbed/ubered there.  It was seriously so easy – there are a billion cabs around downtown and it cost people less than $10 per cab, so I don’t think anyone had an issue with it.  I even hopped in a cab in my wedding dress to get there!  Because our venue was in a slightly out of the way area, we opted to provide a shuttle for the return trip only.  It was well under $1000 and worked out perfectly.

petitebee08:  Oh yeah, in that case, I would absolutely just do the shuttle back.  It certainly wouldn’t be tough to get a bunch of cabs/ubers back from anywhere in Lincoln Park, but it’s a nice touch to offer a ride back.  But it will be so insanely easy for your guests to get individual cabs/ubers from a hotel on Michigan Avenue to the venue that I think it’s your best bet to let them do that.

Another point to consider, if your parents are really stuck on the idea, is that not all your guests will be staying at the hotel you block.  Many of them would likely find it easier to just get their own cab there, but they might still appreciate the ride back downtown and walk a few blocks to their hotel home.

We didn’t (our hotel was 2 blocks from the venue), but our coordinator recommended Uber if we needed a ride for anyone (elderly, injured, sick, etc).

I’m not sure about using Uber, but I do know there are lots of driver service ads on craigslist. You could probably negotiate a better rate that way with multiple people who have vans, but then again it is craigslist so take it with a grain of salt. ๐Ÿ™‚ Goodluck!

petitebee08:  I’m considering the same. I’ve been getting quotes for shuttles/coaches this week and am horrified at how much they cost.  There are lots of Ubers in the area we are getting married, but the are major cons to this approach are that we have a good number of people who are older/not tech savvy or are not from an urban area where Uber is popular. So, while it seems like second nature to use it in NY, it may be challenging for a portion of our guests ๐Ÿ™
