I am trying to find pictures of *real* brides in the Jim Hjelm dresses I love. There are three I am leaning towards right now, but have yet to try anything on, and have only seen these dresses on the models.
Jim Hjelm Style 8904
Jim Hjelm Style 8800
Jim Hjelm Style 8850
I am in love with the three of these dresses. Has anyone worn one of these? Will you *pretty please* share your pictures with me? I am 5’6″ and usually a street size 8, and plan on getting serious about trying to drop to a 6 in the next year or two. Which style is your favorite? Which style do you think would look best on a girl who is a bit curvy?

I love the first one on you! It makes you look very slim and gorgeous and I LOVE the back!
AND YOU DON’T NEED TO LOSE ANY WEIGHT! 🙂

I love it too, but sadly, that is the model and not myself 🙂 Since we are having such a long engagement, I haven’t tried anything on yet. But I’m dying to go try on dresses!!

@mrsv- I think that’s the Jim Hjelm model.
Have you tried any of these on? You really need to see the dress on your body to see what will really flatter your figure. That being said, I love 8904! Its gorgeous!

There was an episode of Say Yes to the Dress on just tonight where a bride to be tried on the first one, and even before seeing this episode, I loved that dress, but it really has nice movement. I love the high neckline; I think it’s very classy. I like mermaids when I see them on real brides, but in general, I don’t tend to go for them in the abstract like this.
I do agree with PPs, though. Things I loved online looked awful on me in person, and I realized I like stuff I never would have considered!

Thanks you guys! I am afraid to start trying stuff on too early (we won’t be getting married until 2013), so for now I am just looking online. Also my mom is paying for my dress, and I have no idea yet what her budget for it is. So Jim Hjelm dresses might be out of my league.
I do know from previous experience that, while I *can* pull off strapless dresses, it is not always the most flattering look on me because I am pretty chesty. Also I love the neckline and the back on the second (the 8800). This was the dress I originally fell in love with online. But the front might be a bit too much for me since I am a large C cup…
Also, is it just me or does the model from the first and third dresses look a bit like Rachel from Glee?

I LOVE that first dress. I am the same size, and very curvy, and I actually wanted that dress- I was obsessed with it!

#2 is my favorite, with #3 a close second. And as with all these polls, my least favorite one is in the lead 🙂 I think 2 and 3 show off the derriere very well. #1 makes even the skinny model look thicker, so I’m not sure how good it would look on a real person.

I like the first the best, but higher necklines can be unflattering if you have a large chest. The second is probably the most flattering and necklines can be adjusted. The combination of the strapless dress and the very high waist seems difficult to wear on a curvy figure.
But you do have to try things on and you have 5 seasons of new dresses between now and your wedding! At the most buy it 1 year before the wedding.

That is exactly why I haven’t gone to try anything on yet! Everything I have read has told me I need to wait until the wedding is much closer. So I think I will make myself wait until next summer atleast before I let myself try anything on. Its hard though! I don’t know if my momma can handle it either, hehe. I will make myself wait until at most a year and a half out to actually buy a dress, but that said, I am a girl who knows what she wants and goes for it. That’s exactly how I ended up with my Fiance hehe (he played coy at first because his best friend was interested in me, but I only had eyes for him).
Thanks for everyone’s opinions! Its nice to see what you all think, because the only other opinion I’ve had so far is my mother’s. She apparently sees me in a princessy ballgown, and the full skirts are just not my style. I showed her these pictures and while she loved #2 as I did, she told me #1 was “too plain.” Since when is lace ever plain! I think its beautiful, but apparently my mom thinks I need to show some cleav at my wedding, haha. I’m no stranger to showing off the girls when I want too, but not usually around my family. My brothers think *everything* is too low cut on me, but my mom just tells them that it doesn’t take much to show alot on me. Is there such a thing as tasteful cleavage??

@cbee: Did you ever try it on? If so, do you have pictures? I have not had much luck trying to find pictures online of other brides wearing any of these dresses! I’m dying to see how they look a on curvy person!

This is too funny!! I was just looking for pictures of girls in literally the exact same dresses you have here (which is why your blog popped up in the search). I am going through the same situation. Mother had the same reaction to these dresses, and I am still in love with the first dress. Your last post was a year ago, so any success finding the dresses? Have you tried them on??
