There are horror stories scattered throughout the Bee, but I am interested to see them all in one place! Vote above and then feel free to post pics and explain what has happened to your ring(s).
My center stone chipped! I have no idea how. I just looked down one day, and there it was (upper right in top pic, lower left in bottom pic). I lived with it for years, until a few weeks ago when I got a new ring for our 5 year anniversary. The chipped center stone on my original definitely played a part in wanting a new ring.

@ceebree: I lost one of the diamonds from my shank (it’s a pave setting) and have no idea how/when it happened. Luckily my jeweler had it fixed within a day.

My center stone sits up REALLY high, you kind of have to do that with emerald cuts if you want them to flash and sparkle with the round brilliant and princess stones out there….so I was moving some file boxes in the basement and the prong got caught on the edge of the shelf, the files shifted in the box, knocked my hand against the edge and bent the prong, sending my diamong soaring through the air….my co-worker caught it, we both had this shocked expression on our faces and then I got it over with and started to cry…..
My Boss/Dad came running downstairs thinking I had hurt myself only to find me sobbing over my empty broken setting and the diamond…he called Mr. 99 who came to pick me up, called ahead and rushed me to the jeweler and with the speed and efficiency of a metropolitan emergency room, they put a new head on, re-set the stone and had it back on my hand after a lovely, “Sorry your ring broke honey, don’t worry I’ll fix it” dinner.

@Nona99: Aww, what a nice end to your horror story!

I’ve dropped it a couple of times and part of the metal oon the halo has become a little dented in the corner. I will ask your jeweler if it’s something they could fix in house next time I go. If not, it’s no big deal. It’s not really noticeable.

I lost my ring once for a few hours. I absentmindedly play with my ring sometimes (I’ve only had it since December so I’m still getting used to it). I had my hands in the kangaroo pocket of my hoodie and took my ring off in the pocket without realizing it. A few hours later, it suddenly occured to me that I wasn’t wearing my ring. I looked everywhere but couldn’t find it… Fiance and I tore the apartment apart, and I frantically called the restaurant where we had eaten earlier that day, but no luck. I was on the verge of a breakdown before I put my hands back in my pocket and realized it had been there the whole time!

We were married with gold bands, many, many years ago. After a few years of marriage, we purchased a five stone ring to go with the gold band. When shoveling gravel from the front yard and moving it to the back, I put it in my front jean pocket for safekeeping. Some time during the day it worked its way out and was lost. We spent a few days using my brother’s metal detector going over every inch of the graveled area with no luck. It made me sick! About a week later, the neighbor boy was over visiting and found it on the edge of the driveway where the grass met the concrete. I gave the boy a nice reward for finding it. Now it goes in my kitchen cupboard whenever I need to remove it for working around the house. A hard lesson learned.

I lost my whole ring. Got a new one then upgraded. I was sad I lost my original but got over it because it was a ring and could be replaced.

My RHR just bent/cracked a few days ago. It is a tiny white gold bow and one the ribbon ends bent into the loop of the bow and is slightly cracked. I want to get it soldered back on properly at some point because I love my ring to death.

My diamond has a crack inside. Its an old stone, so who knows wehre it came from. I might have doe it myself. Some jewelers notice it and some do not. Its tiny and to the side. It was sugested that I either et it into a bezel or a halo to better protect the stone. I have not done either, but have thought about either that, or another ring. I go back and forth on what i want, and no…it is not insured 🙁

One of the diamonds in my halo looks cloudy, probably from a crack. I will get around to taking it to the jewelers and having it repaired. I do have insurance so they will take care of. I just don’t want to give up my ring.

My diamond became loose after having my ring resized. Hopefully I’ll get it back on Sunday, because if not, I’ll have to do without it for another month.

- Wedding: May 2013 - Pavilion overlooking golf course scenery, reception at banquet hall
My shank bent within the first two weeks of getting it 🙁 I was rushing through an airport with a heavy wheelie carry-on bag in my left hand, trying to connect my flights after a long delay on the first flight. Later I noticed the ring was oval shaped instead of round! Boo!
Then maybe 6 months later I noticed a pave stone missing. I sent it to my jeweler, and they fixed both problems for free since I was buying the wedding band from them and having them soldered together as well. It was like a brand new ring when it came back! Love!
Missing stone (can you see it at this magnification?):

After I got my e ring I thought the stone was crooked so I had Fiance take it to be looked at. The jeweler kept it for three weeks and when I got it back I had it less than 48 hours and the diamond fell out! I was furious. My future Mother-In-Law was furious (it’s her jeweler she’s used for years). After a month I get it back and he fixed it for free. by then it looks yellow I had it rhodium plated by them at my expense. After two weeks I get it back and standing in the jewelers I literally rubbed the plating off with my finger and it was yellow again. I was livid. They took it back and did it again. It was still yellow. I paid the $50 and took it down the road to a chain store and had it plated the right way in about ten minutes.
