If you work in a techie field, or engineering, or science industry, the economy is awesome, actually. It’s just select fields that are suck-o and dragging the stats for everyone else down. I’m assuming that your “Marcomm” team is some sort of tech or communications? You’ll be fine, if so! Best of luck in the hunt!

If you move to Detroit you can work for me. You can definitely fill in for my assistant while she’s on mat leave, and I also need dyno techs. The work isn’t hard but it’s physical and it’s a man’s world back there (but I live in it). It also doesn’t pay awesome.
Firing people is worse than getting fired, I’ve done both. I’ve also had my job elimiated but was lucky enough to move into a different role at the same place. I helped automate the function and then surprise… no more of those people. I was the only one who would have been affected but it worked out.
Good luck on your search. I’m there with you (looking at least), I’m hating my job right now and could really use a new one.

I am so sorry to hear this. 🙁
Unfortunately, in my line of work, whole teams of people can be let go in a day. I work in video games, and if a game gets cancelled or something, that WHOLE team goes home without a job that day.
Luckily that hasn’t happened yet, but we’re expecting MASSIVE layoffs in a few months or so (we’ll see, no clear date is set). I’m already job hunting.
