Ii just wanted to know if any brides taset changed as they planned their wedding? I wanted a mermaid dress before I got engaged and
- I hated tulle, I hated lace, But guess what I bought my dream dress which is a lace dress with tulle,
- I hated bright colors but my wedding colors are coral,
- I wanted a rhinestone clip in my hair and I decided I will wear my hair plain.
- I wanted a huge wedding I ended up choosing an intimate ceremony with a few guests
- I hated a solitaire wedding ring I wanted a halo engagement ring and I ended up picking a solitaire ring
The list can go on are there any brides who changed as they planed their wedding?

I really wanted a mermaid or fit and flare when I first started dress shopping. I ended up loving tulle ballgowns. My ring taste is the same except that I never cared for halos but now I think they are pretty. I too was planning on having a large wedding and it has kind of been changed into a more intimate relaxed affair.

For sure! However, it’s still quite early for me though.
Before I got engaged,
- I wanted a full length dress, like Maggie Sottero’s Grace Kelly, with a train.
However, I bought a tea-length wedding dress, with a petticoat slip to make it flounce more. (I actually had a cousin who said the tea-length dress wasn’t “bridal” enough. Done and done!)
- I wanted fresh flowers, particularly roses or peonies.
Then, I’d thought.. I won’t have time to make fresh flower bouquets for my Maid/Matron of Honor and myself, as well as a small toss-bouquet for a destination wedding. I ended up buying parasols for everyone, so that they’d have something to hold.
- At first, I’d envision having a small ceremony locally, then fly back to my home-country for a reception at Empire Hotel in Brunei.
Fiance and I ended up picking a place in the Rockies where we got engaged!
- I wanted a bird-cage veil.
I got an elbow tip veil instead.
- I would dream that I would bake my own wedding cake, freeze the layers after soaking it in simple syrup & crumb-coating it. Lay fondant on top and then dowel it.
(Then, have to ride with the cakes and the dress for 6 hours in the car??!!) SCREW IT. I’m buying two small rectangular non-bridal cakes from a local bakery to cut at the reception. I’ll just add a B & G topper that I’ve initially bought for the cakes I was planning to make.

Well, I went from “I have no idea what I want!” to “OMG, I need all this stuff???” to “No. I don’t need all this stuff.”
So not from I want this to I want that, but yes, changed.

I went from a colour palette, and tonnes of decorating ideas, to no colour palette, a different venue, and the most simple/minimal decorations. Just totally pared the whole thing back. It’s going to be great.

@sevenlove: Not massively eg I got the shoes I’d wanted for years, the ring is a cluster which I always wanted, we’re having a moderate-sized wedding which I always wanted; etc. But a few things are different, eg:
I was adament I didn’t want a strapless dress, any bling on the dress, a long train, or a heavy dress. Well, my dress is all of those things lol
I wanted cupcakes, as I think they’re tasty, plus they’re cheaper. OH wanted a tiered cake, so, we’re having a 4 tier cake
I thought the bridesmaids would all wear different dresses; they’re not all the same (MOH will be in a short ivory dress; my junior bridesmaid is also wearing ivory; but my other 3 wanted to ‘look like bridesmaids’ and are wearing floor-length emerald-green Dessy dresses
Oh, and our venue was totally not what I imagined; I thought it’d be a big country house/mansion/golf club with lots of outside space and we’ve gone for a boutique town-centre hotel with just a small courtyard garden lol

I wanted my wedding to be rustic with a soft palate, and at a barn, when I initially got engaged. I also wanted a ballgown with lots of tulle.
NOW, my wedding is very whimsical with lots of bright colors! I’ve utilized a lot of chevron 🙂 The reception is being held in a ballroom. I have been shopping for dresses, and now I’d like to have a “sexier” silhouette with bling!
Tastes DEFINITELY change as you start planning!

My “cares” changed more than my tastes. Let me explain:
I wanted to rent chairs for the ceremony because the ones provided weren’t “pretty”…well I no longer give 2 shits. Unfortunately my mother does and she’s paying, so she’s getting chairs
I wanted acrylic invitations because they were cool and unique. Yup, everyone got paper invitations. Granted, they are nice paper and very pretty (I’ve gotten tons of compliments).
For a brief moment I fell into the “mother’s dresses must coordinate” trap, but quickly pulled myself out of that one. I no longer give a crap what anyone wears to the wedding.
I was all about some DIY coaster favors. Now I’ll be finding some home improvement project to use the tiles for as I am now in the “the free food, booze, and party are your favors” camp. (I also nixed the candy bar for the same reason)
I’ve recently had someone inform me of their pickiness towards food. She asked if she could order the children’s plate because there were mushrooms on the steak. Sure, whatever. As if it’s so hard to scrap the mushroom off your steak. (no it’s not an allergy thing either). She decided scrapping off the small amount of mushrooms would work. Well, no shit…I still don’t care.
The only “taste” that changed was my dress. I wanted an all lace dress. I was very adament about the lace. Well my dress has zero lace 🙂

I’m pretty early on in my planning, and I haven’t even started trying on dresses yet, but I’ve been looking at them and pinning to my Pinterest boards for like a year now, and I seem to change what I want every few months! At first I wanted a fitted all-lace backless mermaid style, then a very narrow A-line Reem Acra-esque knotted bodice with embellished cap sleeves, and now I’m all about the tulle ballgowns and wide A-line styles. Who knows what I’ll end up with!!

My tastes are constantly changing. My only definite is I am wearing a short dress.

@sevenlove: i wanted plain a-line dress and ended up with a mermaid lace dress.
i wouldn’t call it my tastes changing but i didn’t really know what i wanted until i found the dress.

The first time I saw the Jenny Packham Aspen dress (and similar), I thought it looked like a ridiculous nightgown.
Aaaaand now it’s definitely what I’d buy if I had a moutain of wedding money.
