I’m so glad you posted a photo as I was so curious as I’d never seen / heard of green tulips!  lol.  I’m thinking he needs to give you flowers more often šŸ˜‰

I kind of know how you feel, to an extent – I once ordered for my mother one of those “one hundred blooms” Peruvian Lillies bouquets to be sent to her office on her birthday.  She sent me a picture of them once they arrived – she was happy, but I was startled and very bummed to see that not one of them was open.  I know they don’t look like they do on the website when you order them, but still, I’d expected that she would receive some flowers, not all buds.  When they bloomed, they were beautiful, but since I’d expected one thing and gotten something very different (I’d never ordered flowers to be delivered from the internet before), it was far more upsetting than it should have been.

Your poor guy probably also thought you were going to be getting a vase of flowers in full bloom.  I’d be fully honest with him, from where you thought they were tulips and were kind of bummed that he’d sent you your least favorite flower, then had a good laugh as you realized they weren’t tulips after all, you can both have a giggle, and now you both know that internet flower deliveries often come in bud instead of in bloom.

I can’t stand lillies (the smell nauseates me), so I would say something to my SO if he got me a bouquet of them.  I’d thank him for the gesture, but politely say I can’t handle the smell, then I’d likely throw them away.  *shrugs*

leembee :  I know I feel awful. They are very pretty but there were TONS at my grandma’s funeral when I was a kid and now the smell makes me instantly think of death and makes me sad sort of. So I am not a fan of them even though they look really pretty.

Seems like you’ve sorted this and I second what other posters have said about expressing your gratitude for the gift, regardless of whether or not you like the actual flowers. Of course it’s not a life or death matter but I know I haveĀ receivedĀ some well intended but not-my-taste bunches from my SO in our time and I hate to see him waste money.Ā IĀ think if you have strong preferences, some tactfulĀ education is worth it!
