I love the idea – I’d even tell her we made it ourselves as she made your event special.

@sweet5k:  Meh, my Maid/Matron of Honor did this for her parents gifts for helping them with the wedding and I think they’re nice as momentos to remember the occasion by for PARENTS….

But for anyone else they’re just super-customized plates that you can’t get rid of and probably don’t want to use at a dinner party.

IMO…

@mchitt329:

I am with you on this one.  I have done these myself and have seen the projects that others have made.  I have to admit, I ended up donating all of mine…

I think if someone honestly takes into account the hostess’ style… kitchen colors, style, maybe a quote that is really meaningful… it would be very beautiful.  If it looks like a 3rd grade art project, not so much.  I’m sure that yours will look beautiful since you are putting in the time to really put the thought into the gift.  I would love a fruit bowl, serving dish, or a pitcher etc. and if it was in my vintage and cottage style and my colors it would be so special to me.

@nl:

True.  With the right colors, it could be nice.  Also, it could depend alot on the “artist.”  Which I guess I am am not, lol!

@imabridesmaid:  ha… I can do a lot… paint pottery isn’t one of them.  Id have to use stencils or have a very simple design… like a heart… thats its.

@sweet5k:  I think those are really beautiful.  I didnt mean to offend by saying “3rd grader” I was kinda meaning if like someone gave me a bowl with stars and hearts and teddy bears on it, with my name written in the center.. not really practical.  But those are really beautiful, and personalized.  The last one, I know my aunt would love… and I really like the first one that’s all blue.  Very pretty, and very skilled!  The blue look like pier one or something!

Those are all pretty, much better than I could do, lol!  I rather like the first one.

Haha, until I saw the pic, I was imagining some of the art work I would make.  It would be sad, and not appreciated by the person I gave it to…  But those are really pretty, and you can customize it for each person.  I particularly like the first two.

I know I love beautiful painted, handmade pots but can never afford them!  If you are as good as your hubby at painting, go for it.  If not, just make him paint them. 😉

I think you are very talented.

It would depend on the host, I myself don’t like one off pieces- everything has to match. I’d prefer a nice bottle of wine and some chocolates BUT everyone is different and you know your hosts.

@sweet5k:  Honestly, not my style.  My comments were aimed more toward the crowd that goes to the “places that sell unfinished pottery places for relatively inexpensive prices and lets you use their supplies to paint them, finishes them in the kiln and you wind up with beautiful finished products.”

I think it is a lovely idea for anyone with a modicum of fine motor skills.

So not for me (she said, as she stabbed herself with a pencil and fell off her chair)!
