I must say that when we first started planning our wedding, I didn’t expect to make some of the decisions we did. For example:
My hairpieces. I expected something simple that would allow my gown to be the star. But when I went into the bridal salon to pick up my gown once it came in and tried on accessories with it, I ended up going with a chapel veil and a crystal haircomb. The fingertip veil didn’t look right with the lines of the gown, but the chapel veil just works. It’s stunning.
Bridal party’s gowns. I expected that my two co-MOHs (who comprise my bridal party) would be in cocktail-length dresses. But with the drama of my aforementioned gown/veil/etc., they needed gowns. They just did. Cocktail-length dresses would’ve been incongruous.
Reception decor. I expected to do chair covers and floor-length tablecloths since the venue’s chairs are hideous on their own, but I didn’t expect to do upgraded linens. We’re doing said chair covers with champagne sashes and floor-length tablecloths in ivory, as well as plum satin runners on the guest tables and filigree-embroidered champagne overlays on the head table and cake table.

Hmm… I have a few I think.
I chose forest green for my maids. Originally I’d wanted a different, lighter green, but when I saw it in-store I didn’t like it. The forest was lovely, though, so we went with that.
A morning ceremony and brunch reception! I always pictured my wedding in the evening, but when the idea of brunch came up I couldn’t resist it.
Fiance decided to wear a latte-colored suit instead of a black tux. I was floored! I love the non-black suits I see on bridal blogs but Fiance had been adamant that he wanted a black tux. Then he saw an ad for this latte suit and completely changed his mind. He tried it on yesterday and he looked drop dead gorgeous. Can’t wait to see him on the big day 😀

@HeyKaraoke: Yay for October 5th! Eighty-nine more days! 🙂
Re: latte – is it a khaki shade? Trying to visualize it.

@leenh78: I didn’t even notice – hi date twin!
To me, the latte looks like coffee with cream. The tux shop guy called it a muted brown. Fiance called it gray-brown, haha. It’s a really lovely color.

@HeyKaraoke: Nice! That, coupled with the forest green, is lovely for a fall wedding!
FH went for classic black with pewter accents. So my two MOHs (who comprise my bridal party) will be doing pewter shoes.

We’ll just make this an October 5th, 2013 thread
I surprised myself when, after having my hair and makeup trial, I decided that I actually do not want pro makeup. Up until then, I thought there was no way I could go without! But after seeing what I looked like, I was like ummm thanks but no thanks!
One of our first wedding decisions after we got engaged was to not have a bridal party. But one of our really good friends recently approached me and said that he was planning a bachelor camping/fishing weekend for Fiance and needed my help coordinating and keeping it a secret. I was so floored and happy!!!
@HeyKaraoke: I love the morning wedding and brunch reception!

I decided to have a MUCH bigger wedding in terms of guests than I anticipated. FH and I were set on a very small, nontraditional destination thing and then changed our minds to a 70-90 person full on wedding with pretty much all the bells and whistles. I never thought I’d want that, but when it came down to it I guess I did!
Also I didn’t want a bridal party, but we are now planning on asking a couple of friends to stand up with us (no matching dresses or anything, but much closer to a bridal party than I anticipated).
@FutureMrsLAL: I think I might end up with you on the professional makeup. I have never liked how anyone has EVER done my makeup besides me, and I am almost 34 so I’ve had my my share of pro makeup applications. I’ll try to find a makeup artist I like, but I don’t have a lot of hope.

My choice of colours really surprised me. My favourite colour is olive green and I always pictured lots of gold accents. Somehow I’ve ended up having mocha and blush! I absolutely love it but people seem very surprised I have not gone crazy with green!

@FutureMrsLAL: @HeyKaraoke: That could be arranged! 🙂 What do you both have left to do for your wedding plans? Perhaps we can compare notes!

Not much has surprised me beyond my dress selection. I always assumed I’d have a simple halter style dress with a simple neckline and some sleeves, in a very basic pattern.
I ended up with a strapless dress that is PERFECT for me, but is nothing like I envisioned.

@FutureMrsLAL: Don’t forget that you’ll need to be wearing a lot more makeup than you’re comfortable with for it to show in photos. Like, a LOT more. I took some headshots for LinkedIn the other day, wearing kind of a lot of makeup, and you can’t even tell. :
Hm. I’m surprised I’m not freaking out more. Decision-wise, I was surprised with my dress. I wanted lace, drama, no beading. I ended up with a flowy chiffon sheath with beading at the top. As much as I wanted a lace mermaid or something, the dress I chose is pretty, flattering, and comfy (plus I can eat lots of s’mores without a food baby showing lol).

A few things surprised me.
I always imagined SO in a black suit, but when we started looking he was really drawn to lighter colours and ended up wearing a beautiful light-brown suit.
We had a much smaller wedding than we originally planned. Only 20 people invited and it was amazing.
I was sure I would wear a birdcage veil, but I didn’t like it on me when I tried it. So I had a flower wreath.

- Wedding: September 2014 - Lodge
My dress surprised me. I swore up and down that I wanted an A-line, satin gown with just a little bit of bling on the waist. I swore I would not wear any lace, I did not like the sweetheart necklines and I did not want anything too fitted so no fit and flare, mermaid, or trumpet.
I ended up falling in love with and buying an all lace, mermaid dress with a sweetheart neckline. There is no bling anywhere on the dress so I ended up buying a 2nd belt to change into at the reception.

@vorpalette: That’s what everyone kept telling me… then I looked at our engagement pictures again (by the same photographer that is booked for the wedding), and I am super-happy with the way my face looks in those. I’m not going for a super-glam look… I want natural, and to look like myself. Fiance told me that I did not look like myself, and I agreed.
