So, my current living room is oranges and yellows, and wooden furniture. It’s not pretty. The only reason I haven’t redecorated so far is because of the curtains!
We have full wall patio doors in our living room, and biiiiig curtains for privacy. We’re not in a situation where we can have no curtains, and the curtains we have are a burnt orange colour, and so dictate our whole colour scheme.
Now, I want to have our living room with wooden furniture, a tan leather corner group sofa and shades of navy and blues.
So, long story short, I need to dye my curtains! They are so big it would be about £300 (around $500?) to buy new ones. The label says they are 100% cotton, but they wouldn’t even fit in our washing machine to dye! Do you guys think it would even be possible to dye them from orange to navy? I can provide pictures if you want.

Possibly. I’ve never dyed curtains before but I have worked costuming in theatre and have experience dyeing different fabrics and clothing for shows. the 100% cotton will make things easier!
If you decide to go for it…. use Rit dye! It’s seriously the best. I think if you follow the instructions carefully it can be done. Just be sure to leave it long enough…. your washing machine may not be the best place to do this if they don’t fit…

It would be easier for you to make or buy new curtains. The orange won’t make it to a decent looking navy and you would need something big enough to dye them in so that the fabric can move freely and take the color evenly.
Do you sew or know someone who sews? If you do, you could have curtains made in whatever color you like.

Yeah, that’s what I was worried about. I don’t know where we could put them to dye them without sending it away to get done professionally, which would be expensive. I can sew hems and used to do cross-stitch, but I don’t owe a sewing machine or know anyone who could make them. Hm 🙁
