Long time lurker, but just wanted to say hi! My SO and I started talking more seriously about rings a few months ago. I don’t wear much jewelry and am pretty picky, so he wanted my input on the setting at least. I was really unsure of what I wanted except that I wanted a unique more elaborate setting. So the hunt began and I pretty much fell in love with a designer setting (Verragio Insignia 7050) I knew would push the budget he said he felt comfortable in. Since then we have essentially been trying to find a more budget friendly setting that is very similar to the designer one I love. During this process I have been trying to find faults in the setting I first loved, like how it is more ornate than something I would normally wear, to make it easier to fall for something similar, but really nothing has compared. I think the hunt for an alternate setting has exhausted us both, he agreed it was the best choice and since it obviously made me happy we should just go for that one regardless of it being designer priced. Now I am afraid I brainwashed myself into not liking it as much and am second guessing it. Has anyone else gone through this?

@MsLabRat: That is a beautiful ring! Have you guys thought about getting a custom made ring based on that ring? It could bring the ring into your price range.
I totally understand where you are coming from. My dream ring is a Tacori 2622PRMDP and I always come back to it no matter what I look at. It starts at $5900 not including the center diamond(and the setting is set for a 1ct diamond or bigger). SO and I are in the process of designing something similar with a few custom touches and it will be a fraction of the price including the diamonds!

The custom route might be a good option! Have you priced it out?

So we discussed the custom option. I was all for it. And even though my SO has actually used CAD and understands the whole process for some reason he has been very anti-custom design because “you can’t be sure exactly how it will turn out.” I can see his point considering some of the settings I have disliked have been for very minor things that you probably wouldn’t have gathered from a model.. like the ring being uncomfortable. Now he seems really sold on the designer setting since it is the easier route..
