I had to put 4 beloved cats to sleep. One of them I had since I was four years old. That was the hardest. Another one was only 3 months old as she had a heart murmur and trouble breathing. That was also really hard…
I took comfort in knowing they had full, long lives (except the 3 month old), and that they would not suffer any more. When their quality of life goes down and they are no longer living their happiest days, it is time. I don’t like to see them suffer so I have no problem being strong and taking them in. I always have to do it alone which is sad for me because my family doesn’t want to do it. But I’m happy to be there for them and I always stay in the room until they’re gone.

I am so sorry, bee. It must be one of the hardest decisions of your life. :(( I couldn’t even imagine it.

milksteak : He is gorgeous. You look so sad bee.
I had to agree to put to sleep a rescue pup I’d found after he’d been in an accident. His injuries were grave and I had him for a week before he passed. That was heartbreaking so I cannot imagine how saying goodbye to this lovely boy is going to feel like.
You’ve been given some wonderul ideas here. Defnitely keep a snippet of his lovely soft fur.
Nothing is going to make this easy and I have no words that could possibly comfort you. But thinking of your boy as you get through this very difficult day. I like to hope, we will meet our furry family members someday, somewhere again.

Oh it is awful, no doubt about it at all, it is awful. I think you will know when the day comes. I found having the vet come to the house to do it rather than taking them to the vet much better.
Whatever you do, be there, right to the very last second, holding him if possible . It is the hardest thing, but we owe them that, the dearest creatures
