    No, not arrested.

    I was fined in college for drinking under age.  I had to do an 8 hour alcohol class, pay a fine of $255, and pick up trash on the side of the road.  That’s about as bad as it got!

    My dad was jailed numerous times unfortnately.  Very embarrassing.

    @Artificial-Sweetener:  Oh yeah.

    ***ETA: I have never been officially “charged” or “convincted” of anything. But has my ass sat in cuffs in the back of a car? You bet your sweet ass.

    @Artificial-Sweetener:  HELLS YES! So it was my 22nd bday and we were at a club listening to live bands. The airconditioning gave in and the band had some trouble setting up. My bday is during the height of sweltering South African summers. I cooked in that venue. I stepped outside to cool off.

    We were sitting around on the side walk, listening for clues that the band managed to set up right? So suddenly the cops come and raid the club en masse. I think ‘hey they are busting for drugs or guns’ so I set my handbag down to be searched stepped forward and took a sip of my drink. ‘Is that your drink?’ asks the ogre of a police man. ‘Why yes, it is officer, would you like some?’ ‘You are under arrest for drinking in public’. So picture this, a holding cell in downtown Johannesburg all chock full of vagrants, thieves and drug dealers. I got locked up with the lead guitarist from our band. Men and women all together in one HUGE cell. It wasn’t too bad, I had a laugh. They booked me in and saw on my identification document that it was my bday – the cops made everyone sing to me.

    I got bounced late that Sunday (this was a Saturday night), missed my flight to Cape Town and could only get another flight 3am. Took that flight, went home, showered, drove to varsity to sit for my economics 2 exam at 10. I took my docket to prove I was locked up hoping for a sick exam (as I couldn’t study the Sunday all day like I had planned). Nope, you need to write it.

    I passed.

    That is one of my favourite stories now, when it was happening it was a nightmare though.

    PS: it also isn’t a charge or conviction – we had to pay a fine and it was struck from our records. No court dates or anything.

    Yes.  10 years ago when I was 21.  I won’t get into details, but now that I look back, I find it to be sort of bullshit, and I would have fought it had I been older & wiser.

    I am not sure it “changed” me, but I have given advice to others.

    @Artificial-Sweetener:  I haven’t been arrested or in handcuffs, but I’ve come veryyyy close a couple times! lol most recently was when I decided to give a cop a piece of my mind the night friends and family got into town for our wedding (I drank wayyyy too much). So basically, I very well could’ve missed my own wedding due to sitting in a jail cell! -_- humorous now, but so embarrassing the next day (and still kinda is!) Darling Husband loves telling that story……

    @Artificial-Sweetener:  don’t be fooled, I am not. Like I said, it was a nightmare while it was happening, and I have no idea how I passed that exam! Hahahahha.

    EDIT TO ADD: I had to have a tetanus shot later after my exam – the joys of third world prisons.

    No, but I am guilty of stealing sweets from the local shop for a dare when I was younger!
