I didn’t count calories when I was pregnant with my first- in fact, I probably overindulged. My body would DEFINITELY not let me go hungry, so it really wasn’t necessary.

“Do you count calories to make sure you ate accordingly or do you just make sure you eat during the day and think its enough?”

Count me in the latter camp. (In the first trimester, I struggled a bit with getting myself to eat at all because of my limited appetite at the time.) FI and I usually have our meals together, plus there might be some snacking throughout the day. I have not noticed any particular changes to my diet since the pregnancy, and I don’t recall having any unusual cravings.

P.S. I’ll be at the 39 week mark as of this coming Sunday.

@loveknows:  I’ve kind of shyed away from strawberries since Fiance is allergic and the kid could inherit said allergy for all I know. But I’ll maybe snack on grapes or a banana.

i was on myfitnesspal trying to lose weight before i got pregnant.  so when i was pregant, i continued to use mfp and was obsessed with counting calories….however, all it did was make me feel terrible because i ate way more than i was “supposed” to everyday.  ironically, my weight gain was on target for the longest time.  i finally stopped counting and obsessing and just focussed on eating healthy.  i did up ending gaining 45 pounds, which was only 10 pounds more than i wanted to gain and so far i am 2.5 weeks postpartum and losing it pretty quick.

I was advised to only eat extra 300 cals in the third trimester. I track what I eat on MFP but dont get near 1800 cals a day! I’m normal weight and didn’t usually eat 1800 a day (I find that a lot!). I’m just planning on eating when I’m hungry, unless a medical professional advises otherwise.

I count calories/food diary diligently for the past 5 weeks I have been on the house-rest.

It just reminds me that I can only have one piece of cake rather than 5 pieces on same day.  By keeping the diary, it also lets me know which group of nutrition that I may be missing that day or week.  I don’t like to eat meat and there are many restrictions on seafood (type, amount and frequency) that I have to keep my eye on.

Nope.  I do track how much protein I’m getting, though (trying to follow the Brewer pregnancy diet) and overall try to make good choices.  However, there are those random queasy/cravings days.  I don’t beat myself up too much about them.  My doctor is fine with my weight gain (probably 15ish pounds at 28 weeks), and baby is growing well.

Heck no. I’ve just been eating when hungry, which has been often. I only struggled to eat at the beginning of my pregnancy. I was behind on the weight gain for a while, but I’m just fine now.

As for eating healthy, I’m eating less healthy than I did pre-pregnancy, but I’m still eating healthier than most people do in general. A lot of my extra calories are coming from things like french fries and ice cream.
