I think this is the right place to post this… Have any of you been afraid/anxious to book the vendors you have chosen? We are getting married in Sept of 2013 so we have some time to “book” the vendors. But, I am 95% of the photographer (actually a co-worker of mine), and 90% on the DJ service, but I am feeling ANXIOUS to actually book or put down the deposit!
We are having Tent Rental people come out this week and look at our yard to give a final quote… Maybe this is why??
Anybody else feel this way?

Are you afraid you will find something better? Why do you hesitate? You can always ask for recommendations from past clients.

@michiru4ever: I’m not sure I will find anyone better, I’m afraid I’ll make the wrong choice or a cheaper option will come about. I’m on a pretty tight budget, and I think it just makes me nervouse to spend that much on anything…

I was at first, only because I am so anal with researching things fully before buying anything and I wanted to make sure I was making the best possible choice there was. But then I realized that things were already starting to book up (we were looking in April of this year for a July 2013 wedding!) so it kind of forced me to make decisions.
The only thing we never hesitated on was our photographer, she was the only one that caught our eyes and we fell in love with her pictures and after meeting her we just knew. But everything else was cause for a spreadsheet and lots of comparisons.lol
Are you afraid that you will make the wrong choices?

I got a little nervous putting down deposits, after all, it is quite a bit of money. In the end, even if a cheaper option comes up, will you be as happy/secure with it? I’ve seen photographers for less, but I love my photographer’s style and I wouldn’t be albe to attain that at a lesser price.

Just saw your last response. I totally understand the thought of what if you find something cheaper. That’s why I created an excel spreadhseet for each vendor that i was deciding on and compared up to 10 different vendors to get a real clear picture of what the prices were, what they included, etc.. Not sure if this helps but I always find that seeing it all on one page to compare makes it a bit easier.

@FarleyNish: Thanks for that thought! I have done that to a bit, I’m very much a “let’s write it down, pro’s/con’s, price, etc. We did that with the Tent Rental place, plus some more subjective thoughts, and that is how we came to the decision of which tent rental place to go with.
Maybe once I get the final quote from the tent rental and put that deposit down, I “know” it is happening… 😉 And then won’t feel as anxious!

I didn’t like how you had to leave some large deposits for an event that is over a year away. And I always had dreams that certain vendors didn’t show up!
I would go with reviews. And when in doubt, throw it out.

I totally get this.
You just gotta go for it. It is scary, such a big day, so much money…. we want to make “the perfect decision”. Once you book you will feel so much better!

I was somewhat…I have been indecisive because I tend to be very picky about things. I also wanted to pick the “perfect” vendors. The first one (venue) was also a little scary to me because it was the first. Now I’m ready to be done with booking vendors, so I’m feeling good about just going with it. I’m also getting tired of meeting with them (I seriously met with 5 florists)…so my DJ and officiant I just booked without meeting! Based it off of reviews and talking on the phone… It was great not having to go to another appointment!
I also made some excel sheets for a few different vendors to list out comparisons on cost and what was included with each. Helped me to make a decision on somethings.

My advice is to do lots of research ahead of time. Decide which vendor you will book with, and then stop looking or doing more comparison shopping. It’ll help get rid of some of your regrets/worries.
Excel spreadsheets are definitely the way to go… I have one for every single vendor.

Deposits made me a little nervous, as well. FH reminded me that the quality of the services we’re getting is worth every penny. 🙂

Yes. I was nervous because it was a TON OF MONEY. I wrote bigger checks for the wedding than I have ever written in my life. And since I had never done this before (hired a DJ, hired a photographer, hired tent people, etc etc etc), I was definitely a little paranoid that there was something I wasn’t seeing that was going to get me totally screwed and lose our money.
Then again, I’m like this with other big purchases too. When we bought our car, I refused to sign one piece of paperwork until it was all printed out and I could read over it…and I still sort of figured that the bumper would fall off of it as we drove away.
