I have been putting off honeymoon plans, but it’s getting to be time to bite the bullet. My Fiance has wanted to go on a cruise and I’m pretty interested. It would be a first for the both of us. Norwegian has a brand new ship, Breakaway, that departs from NY and docks in Bermuda for 3 days. I figure that gives us the cruise experience and time to explore a new place.
Have you been to Bermuda? any recommendations?

@HVbride: I have been to Bermuda – on a cruise. If you are going to be there for more than three days it is definitely worthwhile to buy a transportation pass that will let you use all the buses and ferries for one flat cost. There is a ton to do in the port area but don’t get sucked into that right away, go and see places like St Georges, Horseshoe Bay, and Hamilton. Hang out in the port bars and shops at the end of your day before you plan to return to the ship or even for the time after dinner (drinks are slightly cheaper than on the ship). While you are in port the gangway will be open 24 hours so you can come and go and explore as much as you please.
Any other questions?

LOVE Bermuda! We went there for 5 days last Easter and I really want to go back! The beaches are amazing, but there’s so much more to the island than just that. If you like hiking, there’s an old railway track that you can follow – just beautiful! We also visited the light house on Gibb’s Hill, had brunch at Fairmont Southampton and had a look at the botanical garden. In terms of down town Hamilton, there’s lots of nice restaurants but some places were really crowded when the cruise ships came in. We found this one place called Pickled Onion that was a little less busy and had really nice food (try the pizza!). And don’t try their signature drink, Dark n Stormy” unless you really like rum! 🙂

DH and I went on a Royal Carribean cruise that left Bayonne, NJ (directly across from the NY port). It was amazing! I loved every second we spent of the island. I strongly suggest going to Horseshoe Bay beach. It was so peaceful and relaxing. Not crowded whatsoever when we went. Also make sure to check out Hamiltoa for shopping! 🙂 oh, and if you do, make sure to purchase the 3day pass for both the bus and ferry. It’s $28 per person for unlimited uses. 😀

Just a note, the bus pass went up in price, I think its now $35 for a 3 day pass. I’ve been stalking Cruise Critic for the past 3 months ever since I booked my honeymoon cruise to Bermuda…. lots of good information there!!

@PeachSnapple: What cruise line are you taking?
@HVbride: celebrity! I’ve sailed them once about 11 years ago, and they are also almost entirely smoke free, which is very important to me. Looking forward to it so much!!

Celebrity is great, and Bermuda is so beautiful. Make sure you get to a pink sand beach. 🙂

And Celebrity is AWESOME… we were on The Summit for our Honeymoon back in January… you will LOVE it !!
(Celebrity is our favourite Cruise Line)
Be sure and check out Cruise Critic as someone else suggested… TONS of great info and TIPS to be found there.
And do sign up for the Cruise Critic / Celebrity Roll Call… you sign up on CC and also on the Celebrity Website (you need to do both) … they’ll have a great Sailaway Party, and a chance to attend a Meet & Greet Event with the Crew as well.
AND if it is your Honeymoon… be sure and let Celebrity know… cause they’ll have a few extra perks for you on-board as well.
Enjoy… lol, I am soooo jealous… If I could afford it I’d cruise several times a year… no more relaxing holiday with a nice combo adventure & pampering (aaaah the pampering !!)
Hope this helps,
