I have been watching the Olympics, and my favourite event is alpine skiing. I think you forgot nordic combined and skeleton from your list.

I have been watching, but rarely, because Darling Husband and I do not have cable. It’s usually on at his parents though and we visit a fair amount.

But now I can’t watch it without thinking about a meme I saw: that all winter sports are various forms of sliding:

    Skiing: Sliding on two boards

    Snowboarding: Sliding on one board

Figure Skatine: Sliding on thin blades

    Luge: Sliding in a vehicle

    Hockey: Sliding with fights

LOL.  (I know there’s a lot of athleticism and skill involved to be able to compete like they do, but I still find it kind of funny :P)

Like its my job basically haha GO USA!!!!! I watch everything as it comes on NBC/USA ect. and try to avoid the results so I can pretend I am watching it live haha My favorite events are curling, ANYTHING with jumps (halfpipe, freestyle, skijump ect.) and all of the sliding events (bobsled, skeleton, and luge). Also in general I will get super into any sport if an American is competing for the gold. I find figure skating for the long program kind of boring (the short program is much better) but I am definitely paying attention to the dancing and womens sections since we have shots at medals there.

ETA: I will also always route for a good underdog ala the Jamaican bobsledding team.

Imm not working at the moment so this has been my no.1 source of entertainment…. I LOVE it!!! like, totally obsessed. I love all the new snowboard & free ski events but nothing beats the downhill. i actually think I love it more than the summer olympics – mainly because of the danger feature & the athletes in so many sports competing right on the edge. There aren’t many summer sports where just by competing they’re putting themselves at risk of serious injury or even death. Did you watch the snowboard cross the other night? Total carnage!  anyway, yes, it’s on 12 hours a day in our house.  FH actually stayed up to watch curling yestersay because he’d had a bad day and he said it was so silly it cheered him up ๐Ÿ˜‰

I root for NZ and show mild interest when the Aussies do well.  I want to throttle some of the commentators too but by the sounds of things (Bode Miller interview??!!) it’s not just the Aussie commentators who are bad. Our coverage is on a new broadcaster this year though and it’s much better than London or Vancouver.

I think worker productivity in Canada drops during the hockey games – for the ones on Wednesday and Thursday, it seemed like everyone in my office was streamining the game on their computers.  Thank goodness for CBC’s excellent coverage, and double monitors ๐Ÿ™‚

The only things I don’t like watching are hockey and ice dancing.  All the other figure skating is awesome, but ice dancing…I’m sorry, I know it’s not easy, but it’s not a SPORT.  It’d be like having ballet in the summer olympics.  It’s NOT A SPORT.  Twizzles are not as athletically difficult as triple toe-loops.

You forgot skeleton.  I’m sure there are others!

This weekend I woke up early Saturday and Sunday to watch the early curling games on my phone in bed.  My office is showing olympic coverage in the lunchroom, which I where I’ll probably spend Thursday morning next week to watch the medal games.

    Ahh not worth it. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m watching whatever is on TV whenever I can watch. At work, in malls, wherever, there are always crowds of people watching. I love the sense of community during the Games!

@winstonchurchill:  I agree about artistic gymnastics, but golf and diving require athletic skill.  I concede that ice dancing requires some athletic ability, but it’s mostly just dancing around in a sparkly outfit.  Anyway, go USA.  First gold ever for ice dancing!

@ykyegbride:  CBC is awesome!  We’ve been watching it a lot since they have the Olympics on a lot more than any of the American channels.  I also love their coverage, the other day they were showing the Canadians that participated in something, and mentioned ALL of them, even though they got like, 16th, 17th, 25th, and 43rd, or something low like that!  I think the American stations barely glaze over anyone who doesn’t get a higher result!  Also we get to see all the Canadian commercials, which is fun!
