Funny enough, I just went to one on Sunday πŸ™‚ It was absolutely beautiful. Everyone loved the scenery and the whole place was very nice. They had the ceremony outside and got lucky with perfect weather, and it was great for mingling and chatting between the ceremony and dinner. The dinner and dance were in the barn and it was nice to wander outside for fresh air- my reception is at a bowling alley so anyone who wanders outside will be met with all the smokers who can’t smoke at the bar πŸ˜›

The only con I can think of was that they had so many guests that they had to use the ground and second floors of the barn, so the couple and wedding party were on the ground floor with half the guests and the other half was upstairs where we didn’t get to see their entrance, hear any speeches, get them to kiss, etc. They did their best to take care of us but I wish we all were in the same room. Might not be an issue depending on the barn size and the number of guests though.

I have never been to one…but I hope someone I know has one soon.  I’ve only been to church weddings so far (and mine’s in a church too, lol!).  They’ve all kind of been the same.  Nothing really stood out like they DIY’d stuff or made it unique.  I want to go to a barn wedding one day!

I have been to a few but I live in farm country, there are barns and farms everywhere. It seems normal for me, there are old barns that are authentic- like the barn that Son in law was filmed in- and new ones like the one you described. IMO guests are more relaxed compared to ballroom or country club weddings we still have a lot of those too. Most guests were from out of town at the last barn wedding I was at and they seemed to really like it.

@Hydrangea09: I know the question wasn’t directed at me, but all the guests at the wedding I went to were in typical formal wedding attire- dresses, dress slacks, etc. Nobody thought to “dress down” so I wouldn’t be concerned, though you can always add a note about attire on the invitations. The wedding I went to was sort of between casual and formal- lots of sunflowers and white Christmas lights with tool for decorations.

@Hydrangea09 No, they dress according the level of the invite, my sister’s wedding was at the same barn as a friends.

My sister’s wedding was very casual with very informal invites and she told her friends to wear jeans- so they did. The groom’s dad even wore jeans- and slippers! (Ugh!) I photoshopped them out of my photos, the slippers and jeans not the dad.

My friend’s wedding had traditional invites and are just more formal than my sister in general. They are members of a country club and so were a lot of their friends. Their guests didn’t wear jeans.

I think guests feel relaxed because there aren’t country club members using the rest of the facility creating a sence of exclusiveness and there is a charm with barns that is a little more fun than a ballroom.

These were some photos I found online of the barn that both weddings were at, guests were dressed nice and this looks more like my friends wedding than my sisters.    πŸ™‚

Yup. Mine. πŸ™‚

The guests really enjoyed the setting, there was plenty of space for the kids to run around and the adults loved the views. We were married at a newer barn that had restrooms and a kitchen, so I suppose one could argue it wasn’t really a barn.

I think hydrangeas and twinkle lights will look great for decoration! As far as what the guests were wearing….nobody came in jeans. Some of the guys wore khakis and a dress shirt, some wore suits. For the ladies most were in knee length dresses, a few wore slacks, all were wedding appropriate.

I just went to one in June and it was so pretty!!  I dont have pictures on this computer but I can see if I have some at home. Other than it being hot in June, it was perfect and turned out great!  She had painted wine bottles for table numbers and then added some flowers for centerpieces, hangin mason jars. around the bar, and people were dancing non stop!  It was just such a fun atmosphere and our friends are still talking about how fun it was!

I’ve been to a few at different barns and they have been phenomenal! If you are going for that rustic/vintage feel, the venue alone sets the stage, and all you have to do is fill in the details. We are going with a barn ourselves πŸ™‚

I went to one last october – it was GORGEOUS. You should def. go for it if that’s what you want. For the most part, it seems like these places need very little decor to get the effect you want, which is great.
