My upper molar (furthest back) is feeling slightly funny (no pain) and when I run my tongue along it, there is a VERY sharp edge. It is only on one side. I can’t feel anything different with my finger. I tried brushing and flossing- no change. I am a dental hypochondriac- one of my biggest fears is losing my teeth and I HATE dental work. I have a dental appt in almost two weeks, and I tried, but they can’t get me in any sooner.
I have a few fillings but don’t remember if one involved that tooth. Could it be coming out? Could I have chipped a tooth without noticing? I am guessing that would hurt?

I have! 2 teeth actually. Once when I was taking a drink from a glass and my dog came and hit the bottom of the glass and hit it on my tooth! It’s still chipped and will probably not get it fixed. It’s the tiniest chip and nobody has ever even noticed it. I have another one similar to what you are desribing toward the back. I can just feel it with my tongue. I have no clue how it happened.
If you are going to the dentist, you should be fine as long as there is no pain or sign of infection (swelling, reddness, etc).

I’ve had several chips. I’ve had three to my front teeth, all easily repaired. Those hurt because of the manner in which I got them. I’ve also had molars chipped because I used to grind my teeth at night. Those didn’t hurt at all and I only noticed it by running my tongue over them randomly. I still got them repaired, though, to prevent any decay or further damage.
