never heard of such a thing! I am going to go google it now to see what its about. Is it safe to cut on etc? Its hard to imagine paint being durable enough for a kitchn counter.

I’ve never heard of painting granite countertops (and honestly am not sure why you’d want to).

@Mrs.KMM:  it looks like its painting other surfaces (like laminate) to look like granite. Its not granite that is being painted.

I saw this at Home Depot and have been trying to get my husband to try it!  We have blue laminate countertops now so almost anything would be better.  He has been hesitant about doing it so I can’t wait to hear reviews and I reallu hope they are good.

I haven’t but I have a friend who used it. They are going to do a total kitchen gut in a few years but wanted to update in the meantime. She painted the cabinets a color she pulled out of the granite. It looks great.

She does use a cutting board, but so far the finish has stood up well. I’m sure none of us chops directly on the granite either.

To the pp that doubted that a paint could be durable enough for a kitchen counter, they also make a melamine paint has been used on kitchen cabinets and counters for years. It’s not a permanent soluton but if you can freshen up a kitchen for 3-5 years with a $35 can of paint, seems like a good deal to me.

@lyns86stc:  We were contemplatingthis too. I think we’re going to paint this year just to hold us over for the year or two until we have saved enough to completely remove the countertops

I haven’t heard of it before, but the previous owners of the condo I’m in right now painted over the tile countertops in the kitchen.  I have no idea what type of paint they used or if it’s even remotely similar to what you’re going to use, but it chips and peels like terrible.  Hopefully that doesn’t happen with the product you’re going to use, but I would make sure you follow the directions exactly and watch for any peeling/cracking.  Hope it turns out well, I like granite much better than tile and I’m sure it will be beautiful! 🙂

We did just about a year ago. It does take patience as there are preparation steps and drying time between coats. You do have to treat it carefully…but you have to do that with real granite also. We are very happy with it. I plan on buying the top coat from their website so get back some of the gloss from using a too harsh cleaner. They have paints for other kitchen projects too.

I’d love to see before and after pics! We’re considering this to try to change our awful laminate counters!
