Our ceremony is in Missouri.  I found an ordained minister and she charges $50.00 plus gas money….I plan to give her $125.00, though.  AND….I got to write my own ceremony and everything.  I contacted a few others and their going rate was $100 to $250.

@Hou25:  you said

 Too bad I already bought my dress.

What does it matter… you can do anything you want when you are a Bride.  You could certainly wear a Wedding Dress to a Courthouse Ceremony… could make for some nice “urban” pics.

If nobody in your family is interested, reach out further! One of my best friends from high school/college got ordained online, and my county DOES require proof, which costs $8 🙂 It’s a fun way for him to be involved without being in the bridal party. Very personal.

most places do require proof and the website offers certificates ect for like 6 bucks. i did find it odd and funny that when i asked the county im getting married that they said all they needed was his signiture as long as WE knew he was ordained…i was like really?!

Mine is costing us $395 for a customized ceremony & a rehearsal. I absolutely LOVE our pastor! They sent me like 30+ pages of ceremony ideas, readings, blessings, etc and told me we could pick anything there, write something ourselves, or they would write something up for us. They had two other packages, one without a rehearsal which I think was like $295 and then one that was just a simple generic ceremony with no customization for $195. Most of the other ones I found were all $400+ for a custom ceremony, some started at $500 for just a basic ceremony though. Some of them were so expensive!

mine was wrapped up into the package and I wasn’t charged any extra. I did a Destination Wedding though.

ours is $150, and that includes a rehersal the night prior.  We were lucky to find her.  She is a minister, which is exactly what we wanted and she does wedding planning for fun!  Were going to Deep Creek Lake, MD to get married

We booked ours. He was $375 (all inclusive). He is the best of the best from our area though and was exactly what we were looking for in terms of being non-denominational. Great guy, brings spare “rings” just in case, meets with us as many times as we need to customize the ceremony, but does not do the rehearsal. Has officiated over 3,000 weddings and was recommended by our venue as a preferred vendor.

@penguinof3: My grandmother is an old school Catholic so she didn’t like the idea at all.  She didn’t think it was legit/legal either.  I referred her to Universal Life, but it didn’t change her mind.  Oh well.

Until my BFF started planning her wedding and looking for an officiant, I had no idea that they charged for performing services (Religous officiant I mean). Fi’s family is full of Reverends and none of them charge for performing services, unless it is like 20 miles or more away then they charge $30 I believe (depending on price of gas). They believe “God called them to do this and it wouldn’t be right to charge people for doing the Lord’s work”. I’m glad we’re getting legally married at city because that is a LOT of money! Our Destination Wedding is included in the price of our room thank goodness!
