The diamond from my ring is from my great great grandfather. It’s beautiful and I love it! We put it in a new setting as my Mom knew I wouldn’t like the original band. Both the diamond and the original band were what made up my Mom’s engagement ring from my Dad.

My husband went and asked my father for my hand. When he did, hmy dad gave my husband the set and told him the story of the love that was behind it. My grandmother had Alzheimer’s and died when I was young. My grandad would visit her every day and bring her red roses. Red was her favorite color. She didn’t remember who he was, or whoy father wa, or her other son (my uncle) let alone me. My grandad ended up passing before she did, and one day when my father was visiting herr, she looked at him and said “where is that man that used to see me every day? I miss him, I think we were in love”. That was her final moment of clarity before she passed away. She died the next day, exactly a week after my grandad. Their love was the kind of love that was instilled so deeply in her soul, I believe, that no amount of disease could wipe it out. When my husband proposed, I cried like I’ve never cried. He told me that he wanted that life for us, and even if I fforgot him, forgot his face, forgot our life, he would always be by my side and bring me my favorite flowers. This ring holds-to me-a magic that is real and tangible. I will love my life with my husband like she did, always beside, never behind, and never in front. W every time I look at my hand I see my grandmother, my grandad, my husband, and pure unadulterated love. My prince charming might not live in a castle, and we might not have alot of money, but we have true live. And this ring will always be a reminder that happily ever after really does exist, you just have to have the courage and patience to believe.  (Platinum setting circa 1951)
