@RoyalLime:  Your Dr. didn’t make you wait a full year?  I thought that was what they recommend, but I’m getting anxious.

I had an HSG as part of my infertility baseline testing after trying unsuccessfully for a year… I ended up getting pregnant right afterward, during my first round of fertility treatments. I took drugs to make me ovulate, so that’s what really did the trick, but who’s to say the HSG didn’t help, too? MY HSG was really painful, which makes me think one of the tubes was clogged. I hope it works for you, too.

@stillme:  If your tube was clogged it would have shown on the Xray. Mine was VERY painful as well but both my tubes were open.

@poetryreader80:  Yes. I am on my 9th cycle right now. We have done blood tests for me to check hormone levels and my thyroid, my DH had a SA done, and I chart and temp. I know I am ovulating and had 8 charts. My doctor said this was the next step. Some Doctors do make you wait the year, but most won’t. Especially with charting and the other testing.

@poetryreader80:  I think it depends on the doc. Mine didn’t make me wait a year – at 6 months (last cycle), we did the bloodwork, pelvic ultrasound and SA. HSG is next and will be done in the next cycle if I don’t get a BFP. Hope you get some answers soon.

Ive actually just been to the hospital today about this haha! Just to be clear: I had an ultrasound last april which showed some cysts and so was diagnosed with “probable” PCOS, I then  had bloodwork done, DH had his SA (this was all in october) and last month had day 21 bloodwork done.

Ive been told that as soon as AF starts I have to ring the hospital and get in for HSG, and then we are being given a 3 month “grace” period and we will then begin chlomid.

We have been trying for a total of threee years now, and it has been super frustrating waiting around (weve been messed about so much!) to get  to this point.

Is it normal to be given a few months after HSG before the next step is taken?

@RoyalLime:  Now Im nervous about it being painful!Even my doctor said it was “uncomfortable”, which in doctor terms, means big time pain haha!

@Birdee106:  I thought I replied to this one but I guess not. I’ve actually had 3 of them done…

1st one-GYN wanted it done before I started Clomid, it HURT, maybe small blockages but nothing could be seen on the x-ray

2nd one-RE wanted it done before starting IUI/injectables, the dye flowed through like there weren’t any problems

3rd one-Had one done during my laparascopy and no blockages.

Still have never had a BFP….in 9 years. The next step is IVF once I gather enough strength to go through that crap again.  Oh and I’m on my second cycle since my lap (supposedly fertility is increased the first 6 months after) and I tested BFN today so still not looking good on this end.

I wish you much much better luck than I’ve had and lots of baby dust!!!

Thank you, ladies.  I just hope those tests aren’t too expensive.  We’ve had some unexpected expenses come up lately.

@family_girl:  Don’t be nervous. Take some tylenol or advil before the procedure. I just kept thinking in my head, child birth hurts MUCH worse and I am willing to go through any pain that comes if it means I have the chance to become a mommy! Good luck! I think it’s pretty standard to have the waiting period. My doc said the same thing, but he also said the ball is in my court and if I wanted to start Clomid after just one or two cycles following the HSG I could. But we are pretty settled with the idea of giving it a couple shots right away.

@texasbee:  I am sorry you had to go through all of that so far. I will be sending you TONS of baby dust that you can have some success in the next 4 cycles ๐Ÿ™‚

@poetryreader80:  My insurance doesn’t cover the HSG and I believe it’s going to be a couple hundred dollars. Hopefully you can swing it ๐Ÿ™‚

@poetryreader80:  If you have insurance, it may cover it – ours did.  I read a blog the other day that listed out the cost of all of it.  I’ll try to find it again.

I’m having the HSG tomorrow and my hubby is having his SA this week as well.

I’m supposed to leave this weekend on Friday and not return until Sunday, without my husband.  Should I leave Saturday instead, and come back Sunday to ensure we can BD?  I’m supposed to ovulate sometime next week Mon-Wed, and if the HSG makes it happen early, I want to be sure we’re together to get things done!
