No I don’t think they have too many. All those brides are amazingly beautiful and their weddings look trendy or just unbelievably classic like out of a magazine. It’s unfortunate really because it should be showing “real” brides not just a select few.

I’ve noticed that ANY weddings feateured anywhere (magazines, websites…) usually feature only one size of women. Inappropriate I think. But Say Yes to the Dress is starting a new show specifically for plus size girls… that’s pretty cool!

Yeah, I’ve noticed that too. Actually, it seems to be everywhere – magazines, websites, etc. They also don’t seem to show women of color too often, or same-sex couples, either. Personally, I’d love more diversity in the wedding world.

There’s definitely some obvious exclusions in the wedding world. With so many different traditions, cultures, nationalities you would think there wouldn’t be a shortage of wedding photos to represent all types of people.

I actually HATE the idea of a Say Yes to the Dress for just plus sized gals. It has an obnoxious name and the whole idea that we have to be separated from other sizes of girls is just insane. I mean, what would be the big deal about having a wide range of sizes in the normal show and not making a big deal of it? Why segregate larger sizes into their own show with an insulting name? (I mean, Big Bliss? Seriously?) I really hate it. For reals.

Back on topic, yes I’ve noticed. As a plus sized girl in glasses, it’s hard to find example of anything resembling me on wedding sites. One of the reasons I love the Bee so much is that we have plus-sized bees blogging here and it’s no big deal. It’s refreshing.

I totally noticed this about the Knot too! I always wonder about the budget for those weddings too…unrealistic!

The knot just sucks because the boards there are not user friendly and I have to turn the sound off my computer just to stop those annoying videos. what is with that?

I’m indifferent on the SYTTD episode. I think it’s cool in a way to see all plus size in one show just because it gives you a broader range of dresses to look at on different body types in ONE show and not just randomly in all shows although I hope that they will continue to do in the others too. OTOH, I can see how the title and premise could be offensive to some. I am going to TIVO it because I always do lol I am hoping to see all the brides find their perfect dress and be able to try them on. I have to say how horrible my experience started out for me because I went to look at a couple of dresses I was interested in and I am a 14/16 and both of the ones I wanted were sample size 6. WHY? Why is the sample so small? I was so upset because I couldnt get them on at all and had to get my Maid/Matron of Honor to try them on for me just to see how they looked on. I was about to cry until I got into the Maggie Sottero ones which had larger sample sizes.

Yeah, theknot needs some work. Would love to see more variety from them (In brides and weddings). And to me it feels a little difficult to navigate properly. I do love looking at their cakes and flowers though!

I have had the hardest time finding a dress. The whole experience made me want to open my own bridal boutique with bridal gowns and bridesmaid dresses that size 14+ girls can “actually” try on (you know…not having an attendant hold the back closed for you or using those jumpercable clips attached to your bra! ugh).

With the exception of Davids Bridal and Alfred Angelo, every gown store I called only had the standard size 8,10, some 12’s as samples…so frustrating! I was like great maybe I can get my thigh in there!

Okay, sorry had a rant in me that I didn’t even know was there! lol

I have to say…the name Big Bliss, is a bit offensive.

But I do like the idea of the show!

Now, I don’t have to tune into every episode and hope they feature ONE bride that is actually close to my size.

Atleast with Big Bliss, I will definately get to see real plus size girls and get better ideas at to what dresses will actually work for me!

okay, the SYTTD thing. i’m totally going to watch it tonight because i love all syttd and am totally excited to see the bigger girls because i feel like that will be helpful, you know? at the same time, i’m totally annoyed that they went and lane bryanted us into our own show. just have a wider spectrum of women on the regular show people! not just one plus sized girl every 5-8 episodes and stick insects for the rest.
