i have been a wedding website/blog/photo lurker since 2008…my boyfriend and i knew we wanted to get married 2 months after we started dating (and i’m still waiting!!!! AHHH!) but i have SO many ideas and have been looking for so long…i’m overwhelmed at this point. i’m not very organized with my ideas/planning though so my new computer comes this weekend…i cannot WAIT to organize an entire wedding folder down to every last detail of what i want. it helps me remember tiny things i thought of a while ago because the waiting period makes me forget everything! i have actually met with 6 vendors…2 photographers (who were both amazing), 2 wedding locations, and 2 floral/event planners. the photographer thing is so up in the air because i am EXTREMELY picky about photos, so i have been following these photographers for the past few years and have one or two yet to meet. i have an idea of cinematographers i want to meet (made a list) and i did feel very partial to one of the planners we met with…they are the BEST but also very expensive. so we’ll see. this was all last year at this time, but i stopped because we figured it wouldn’t happen for another year. so here we are, a year later, still no ring, and i am ANTSY! plus i know 2 couples who just got engaged, and my mom’s friends kids’ (three more couples!) are all planning on getting engaged this year and they ALL want to get married in 2012. so i’m like HURRY UPPPP, i want to be first!!!! lol.

We’ve pretty much planned it all, basically because we want to get married this September but he hasn’t yet been able to get the ring. The only vendor we’ve spoken to is my friendor, the photographer. We did call a nearby farm museum to see if they had our date open, but it was taken; other than that, we haven’t looked any further for a venue. But the important part here is that I’m not doing this by myself – he is doing just as much of the suggesting as I am.

I’m definitely not one of those wedding crazed females who has envisioned my wedding since I was 4, but I have definitely thought about what I would do if I were to have a big wedding (my husband and I just went to the courthouse to get married). I think I am more into just the idea of throwing a lavish party for my friends and family because I have a strong “entertainer” in my personality. I get it from my dad. I love throwing house parties and dinner parties and just overall planning parties, and I have great taste and ideas too, but the thought of throwing my own wedding isn’t appealing to me or my husband at this point in our lives. And I’m not into putting my parents out either. My dad could definitely afford to give me a decent small wedding but I dunno why I just feel bad taking so much money from him that he’s worked hard for when he’s approaching his retirement in the next 5 years probably.
However, I definitely see in the future, us throwing a really cool party and making it a “renewing of the vows” type of thing to celebrate us. I won’t wear a wedding gown though…first of all I look horrible in white and love color too much lol I’d like to wear a really pretty colored gown and make it a fancy cocktail party at a rented mansion for the evening on the water. That’s what I think we’ll do in a few years when we can afford it comfortably on our own:) Right now our only goal is to buy a home and squeeze a short honeymoon into this year.

we started booking things before me ring came in. well, actually, now that I think about it, we started booking things before we had decided on which diamond… our immediate family knew we were engaged already, but no one else knew right away. we announced it to most of our friends as soon as we ordered the ring, but co-workers didn’t find out until after the ring came in. so the day we got “engaged” is a little confusing considering it was all pretty much a done deal once we started looking at rings (he did get down on one knee and ask again when the ring got here). so my co-workers were all so amazed at how fast I planned things! (little do they know, there were about 3 months worth of planning going on there before they knew we were engaged).
I felt a little weird sometimes meeting with vendors since i wasn’t wearing a ring, but I guess there are lots of people out there who pick it out together, and even some who just dont’ get an e-ring and wait for a diamond wedding band. They didn’t say anything, but I felt strange about it sometimes, like they wanted to be like oooo let me see your ring, but they couldn’t.

I am reading boards and looking at “options” for my wedding but no decision yet. I am waiting to be engaged….. should be soon, ring was bought/ordered a couple of weeks ago. It comes from the States though, and I’m in Canada so it could take 4-6 weeks all in all.
We will definitely have a longer engagement (1 to 2 years) so I’ll have plenty of time to plan. However, one of the first things I will do once the engagement announcement is official, is look at venues and book a place because some a booked a long time in advance. My goal is to have something booked by late summer/early fall at the latest.

Well, he (boyfriend, Fiance, whatever you want to call him) and I went together and signed a contract for a venue but I still don’t have a ring or a formal proposal. That was three weeks ago and I kinda thought I would actually have a ring by now.
I have continued to do other planning tasks but the venue is the only thing we have completely finished. I have gone dress shopping and met with a photographer. I also felt a little uncomfortable about not having a ring. We have told close friends and family that “we’ve set a wedding date.” It is a bit awkward at times even though I am soooo happy!
