I wrote a short paper on this two years ago. I love this movie. It’s so sad, but it’s also strikingly true. I haven’t watched it in a while, but Kate Winslet in the end is just so… I don’t know.

@SweetRose2011:

I didn’t see the movie, but that’s because I had read the book and it was so depressing. I couldn’t relive those feelings again through the movie 🙁 I don’t know how much they differ, but the book was emotionally distressing and yet thoroughly true to the realistic struggles that couples face in trying to achieve the American dream, IMO.

@pink.sequins: They’re quite similar. I kind of advocate seeing it, because I think they did a great job.

@SweetRose2011: It was just a reflection paper that I did for a summer class. I wrote about my feelings towards it and how I felt like they were fighting for the American Dream…and ultimately lost. I remember writing about their conformity to their perceived “norms” and the man that I felt was the most intuitive of the whole move – Kathy Bates’ son.

I agree that the baby really represented her inability to live her dream life (to her.) Such a great movie. I feel the need to watch it again now.

I’m not too sure what I make of the movie; I definitely thought it was awesome and depressing at the same time though.  Kate Winslet is my favourite actress and Leo is my favourite actor so I would have probably thought it was good anyways.  I guess I found it to be very realistic.

I wish I could have the four dollars back that I spent to rent that movie.

@AmeliaBedelia: Thanks for the recommendation…maybe I will. I find that movie interpretations are usually a disappointment because they have to alter the story to fit the format timeframe 🙁 I’ll be sure to watch it during the daytime, and with a lighthearted rom-com to follow it!

Richard Yate’s book Revolutionary Road is one of my top ten favorites, easily. The book is amazing, and way more complex and nuanced than the movie. I enjoyed the movie, but not as much as the book. I felt like the movie made Kate Winslet’s character seem way more crazy than she was in the book- the book had a lot about gender roles in it as well.

I really recommend checking out the book!

I love the book and enjoyed the movie. Yes it was sad, but I like movies that aren’t all fluffy and end perfectly. Plus they both acted so well in it.

For you guys who enjoyed it, I’d recommend seeing Blue Valentine. It definitely weighs heavily on you, but it’s incredibly well made, and reflects so much on relationships today.

I love Revolutionary Road. I read the book and saw the movie. It is such a realistic movie – especially for people who lived in the 1950s. Kate and Leo’s performances are absolutely haunting, especially the one scene between them two in the living room. Even though it is depressing I can watch it over and over!
