@Tomato22:  Yeah, I know you mentioned condoms + NFP later in your post, but I don’t see the pull out method as only for people who are ok with getting pregnant.  When it’s combined with other methods, I think it’s pretty reasonable.

@Firemansgirl:  I dont think that will be an issue. He’s so messed up that I doubt he wll ever get married. He’s now 54, never married, never lived with anyone–only 2 women he’s ever loved–one was married and the other physically abused him. But as you can guess Messed Up=Totally Unbelievablely Hot Sex

I’ve been on the pill nonstop for about a decade, originally for PCOS treatment, but we still use condoms or occasionally POM on top of it because I’m paranoid.

We only do it because it’s a safe risk to take right now.  We’re not trying to get pregnant right now, but we want to fairly soon, so if it were to happen now, we’d still be really happy & in a good place in our lives.  I wouldn’t suggest it for someone who is not in a good place to take the risk.  We have not gotten pregnant doing it this way for a few years, but I do know people who have!

Yes, when I was young and very foolish I used this method with a long term boyfriend. Thank goodness we never had any oops moments, I would hate to have a lifelong tie with that creep.

Well the first time we had sex we were going to use condoms as well as the pill (I had been on the pill for a few months), as I was terrified of getting pregnant. But we had issues with the condoms (his first time as well as mine and he was unable to maintain his erection with the condom on) so we just gave up. He pulled out. But the rest of the time we haven’t used anything besides the pill and have had no pregnancy scares!

@RedPandas:  yes. Worked perfectly for a year. The week we were on vacation we did not & I got pregnant. I would use it again to prevent pregnancy.

@ImmaBee:  This. I use the pill, almost perfectly thanks to a cell phone alarm, and I wouldn’t have it any other way short of one of us getting sterilized. I would never ever give birth, ever, and I don’t exactly relish the thought of the expense & pain (and legal risk, as it’s not legal where I live) of the necessary abortion in my future if I got pregnant by accident, so I don’t like to take chances.

@AB Bride:  Oh, I agree. It’s a wonderful back up method combined with other birth control options. We used birth control + the POM before got married because we did not want to get pregnant before marriage and we felt more comfortable using 2 methods. I meant that I felt there was more risk for user error using just the POM without a backup method, so I wouldn’t use it as the only form of birth control unless I was ok with an accident.

We have been using the POM for the past year and a bit. I have to say, it’s a bit scary sometimes, especially now that we are getting married in May. It would suck to get pregnant right before our wedding. We would like to pregnant after the wedding though so we decided against getting an IUD and to just give my body a break from any form of contraceptive. I had to go off BC due to my period having stopped completely. After several tests my doctor concluded that she thought after being on BC for so many years it just started working to well, hence the no periods.

We’ve used POM for over a year now and no mishaps. We communicate clearly and I trust Darling Husband to know when to pull-out. He hates condoms, and I hate birth control (also somewhat scared of getting an IUD) so it works for us. If we do get pregnant, it’s not the end of the world and we’d still be very happy.

I wouldn’t trust it.  We use condoms as I can’t take the pill due to past bad reactions.

I relied on the pull out method only once. my little coitus interruptus will be 40 in December, I would not swap her for the world even though she was unplanned and time was not ideal.

My husband and i used the pull out method while we dated…then i got on bcp. my husband recently had a vasectomy and doc said it’s effective immediately…idk hubby still needs to go get his sperm checked…but it’s not covered by insurance. now we use condoms….which i hate. it doesn’t feel the same and actually they numb me down there…no pleasure with condoms. last night we had sex 3 times and my husband pulled out each time. i might be taking a gamble….but being pregnant and having another child isn’t the worst thing in the world.
