I’m having a civil ceremony on Saturday with a reception for 100 then a Buddhist blessing ceremony on Sunday for 150. It’s completely do-able as long as you pick good venues and caterers to do most of it for you.

Are his parents keen on having the wedding on an auspicious day? Many Indian families consult astrologers in deciding what date and time the wedding should take place, hence why so many Indian weddings are at strange times, like 10 PM on a Wednesday night. 🙂

@gramgeek:  It’s kind of tricky.  I did two separate invitations with different themes, one for each event.  Out of towners and immediate family are invited to both.  The vast majority of my (Buddhist) family is invited to only Sunday.  Our “American” friends are only invited to Saturday.  There’s quite a bit of overlap, but you can’t worry about what people think… especially if you’re able to invite them to at least one of your events.

So the Indian wedding is only one day?  My friend got married a few years ago and her wedding lasted for 4 days…

@lauraq123:  Indian weddings can be as long as you want them to be.  Some parts of India have more or less traditions than others.

@gramgeek:  I’ll be having 2 ceremonies in 1 weekend.  My Fiance is Indian/Hindu while I’m a Filipino/Catholic.  I’m not sure about not having an indian wedding on a Sunday because our wedding is going to be on a Saturday and I a lot of our indian friends are doing the same.

I’m also doing 2 wedding ceremonies/receptions in 1 weekend.  We’re having a Hindu ceremony on a Friday afternoon (a strange time, like 3 pm for auspicious reasons) followed by dinner…. and a typical american ceremony followed by dinner/dancing on Saturday evening.

I’m planning on doing a lot of D.I.Y., so I’m sure it’s going to be a little stressful right before the event, but I love planning and I kind of like thinking about all the little, crazy details.
