Hey everyone, I’m a serial lurker but really needed some advice or maybe support so finally signed up!
I am getting married in October and have put on a lot of weight over the last year and a half. When it finally came to dress shopping I struggled massively with accepting myself.
Anyway, a few months ago I fell in love with a dress – allure 9317 (will try and post pic) but because of the timing I could only order a size 12 – I used to be an 8 so this seemed way doable. But right now I’m a 14, I’ve started weight watchers and in the gym with a trainer now but I guess my question is… is this doable? Can I lose a dress size in 8 weeks?
I’m sorry this is a typical weight worry post but I’m so embarrassed I can’t talk to anyone really in my life at the moment, my biggest fear is going in to try on the dress and it won’t zip up.

First of all, just to clarify. You are currently measuring as a size 14 bridal size, not wearing size 14 street size, right? If so, then I think you should be fine with losing 1 dress size with weight loss, and if that fails you can try putting a corset back on the dress. Most of the designers’ bridal sizes are way different from street sizes though, so just make sure you are comparing apples to apples.

Absolutely you can lose a dress size in 8 weeks. If you’re a street size 14 trying to fit into a bridal size 12 then you could be in some trouble since that would put you at a bridal 16/18/20 depending on the designer.

Every detail of your story is the same as mine – but rather than stress about it, I just bought a new dress (on sale) and am going to sell my original, unworn/unaltered one online. The original one was much more expensive so the sale of it will actually end up paying for the new dress with a lot left over.
When I realized I couldn’t fit into my dress, I panicked and started considering doing a lot of unhealthy things to drop all that weight in such a short amount of time. But honestly, it’s so much better to just continue working out, get something that fits you and you feel beautiful in, watch what you eat and invest in a solid pair of control undergarments. Good luck!!
