As some of you probably know, I am a real estate broker. If I don’t sell a house, I don’t get paid.
Well, this week, TWO of my deals have fallen through. Yep, one on Monday and one on Tuesday.
The first deal, the offer was to a bank. It can take a long time to hear from a bank, but we offered full price, and I knew we were the only deal on the table, so it was pretty much a sure thing. Apparently we lost a few days because our offer expired in the bank’s system and the listing agent forgot to re-submit it. So, after about 3 weeks of waiting, and we are supposed to get an answer TOMORROW, my client calls me on Monday to say that with her adult son’s recent accident (he is fine, just badly bruised), she doesn’t feel like it’s the right time. (This can happen with long waiting periods, people get freaked out.) All this after I spoke to the son just a couple of days ago and he was still really excited about getting the house (they live together). Also, it was the second time this client backed out of a deal. It was even a very inexpensive house,so it was going to be very little paycheck for me for a lot of work. Guess what? Now, it’s NO paycheck for all that work! Because the listing agent forgot to renew the offer, otherwise we would have had it under contract already and my client wouldn’t have gotten cold feet.
The second deal, I had a buyer all ready to go to put in an offer on the house, he just wanted to get his loan prequalification together, first. The listing agent knows this, but he is out of town, so his partner is taking care of his deals. In this industry, it’s common practice if you receive an offer to call other agents who talked about making an offer so you can present them at the same time. NOPE! It’s under contract. And of course the buyer only wanted THIS house, he has been eyeballing it for years before it was even on the market. He doesn’t want to look at any other houses. I asked.
The best part is that the listing agent on both of these properties is my boss! Thanks to his dropping the ball on the offer expiring on the first deal, and him not telling his partner everything (and/or being involved in his own deal) so we didn’t even get a chance to offer on the second one, I get to continue to make absolutely no money. I’m pretty new to the business, and I have only closed 1 deal so far this year. I’ve been working with so many prospects, but none of them have panned out due to regular reasons and crap like this.
In reality, I know that I can’t put all the blame for this on my boss’s shoulders, but I can’t blame myself any more or I’m going to start to feel like a worthless pile of crap. I’ve earned a total of $3000 this year. I’ve been working my ass off with very little to show for it, soI’ve been feeling very very low yesterday and today. Darling Husband tries to cheer me up, but isn’t well equipped for this sort of thing. Obviously I’m not going to go yell at my boss or anything, but it sure feels like the universe is working against me.
Just had to get that off my chest!
Please post cute kitten photos to make me smile. 🙂
