I am having NINE bridemaids…. hubby-to-be and I each have 3 sisters! Considering all of their different body shapes and also keeping financial situations in mind, I am really leaning toward having each girl choose the dress style that they like best. I don’t want to force them to buy a dress from a certain store (bridal or otherwise), either.
Would I be crazy to tell them to get a black dress of their choosing from ANYWHERE? I have thought of giving them all swatches so that the blacks would be somewhat similar…. good idea? Any thoughts or suggestions???

I chose davids bridal and let them choose the dress as long as it was a certain color and had the satin pulled somewhere in the dress, so that the satin on each of them would make them similar. I asked them over a year before the wedding, which gave them plenty of time to look for sales or order from davids online, because they often have sales. I think they were all able to find them for under 60.

I have been in two weddings that did this exact thing and it was awesome!!!! Everyone looked and felt beautiful. I strongly recommend this option to anyone that can pull off black bridesmaid dresses.

Originally I had given my bridesmaids this choice… it quickly changed because my bridal gown is being kept a secret from everyone… (how it looks) until wedding day. You dress and their dresses compliment one another… and the dress they chose was way far off from my dress. I didn’t like their dresses too much dress and looked like a bridal gown- felt obligated at first because I had given they free range. However, I took it back, calmly and now they are all wearing black dresses from David’s Bridal. My choice, but all 5 girls love it
