I was just thinking about this, and while I have a while I’m not sure what to do either… Commenting to hear what other bees have to say!

I am a fan of gel polish! It “works.”  It lasts for a long time and personally, I don’t like acrylics or my nails feeling “thick” so it is the ultimate solution when you have a big occasion coming up or simply just want your manicure to last.

I would say get a French manicure, but Shellac or other gel polish.  Lasts longer than a traditional mani and you don’t have to be as worried about chipping, but less damage than a full set of artificials.

I wear gel overlays on my natural nails, just because my own are so brittle no matter what I do to my diet or care regimen. For my wedding I’m planning on doing a solid nude color, like Samoan Silk by OPI (I think that’s the color name :/)

HippyBunniesinLove:  I hated acrylic nails. They look beautiful but my nails grow so fast I need to have them filled every 5 days or so. And they’re impractical for my job. I say do a shellac manicure. It’s longer lasting than standard nail polish, and looks amazing. I wish I’d gotten more photos of our nails! They looked fabulous with the shellac! I chose to do a twist on the traditional French manicure by making the tips lavender instead of the traditional white. Long story short, unless you’re looking toward to either constantly filling acrylics or getting them removed and having your nail beds destroyed and really sensitive for a couple weeks, I’d stick to a traditional or shellac manicure.

I went with a gel polish, as it is the type of manicure I prefer always. I find that getting regular manicures for me is a waste money because the polish usually chips after only a couple of days. (I can change my polish every 2 days at home for free.) So if I’m getting a manicure I always choose to splurge on gel. It typically lasts the full 2 weeks on me, and of course starts growing out after that. No nail damage. I did have actual gel nails for a few months a long time ago, and they did do a number on my nails when I finally took them off. Nothing that wasn’t easily reversible, but unless I really hated my natural nails, I wouldn’t go that route for my wedding. And of course, you can always get a French manicure using gel polish! (I went with a pale pink for my wedding.)

They only ruin your nails if you get them done over and over again within a short time frame. I’ve had acrylycs done two or three times and my nails were never ruined after I took them off.
