Hi fellow Bees…
My fiance and I got engaged in September 2013 and are getting married in June 2015. I couldn’t wait to start dress shopping and wasted no time making appointments to find the perfect dress. I went alone to my first appointment because I am very indecisive and just wanted to see what I would be drawn to. I went to the dress shop and started picking an aray of dresses, satin, chiffon, organza, a-line, fit and flare, ball gown, ruffles, bling, flowers… anything that I thought was pretty I tried on. I had talked to my hubby to be and his big NO NO was lace and that’s what I told the consultant that in no way shape or form should there be lace on the dress to make him happy. She was wonderful and made the appointment so much fun! The last dress she pulled was the Karena Royale by Maggie Sottero… it was all lace and I was sceptacle… I FELL IN LOVE!! I never knew I wanted to be the bride that sparkled from head to toe but I was! I didn’t want to make any decisions without my mom, I had no hesitation about being a year and a half away from the wedding but I needed my mom there to see her reaction. So I made an appointment at another salon and went with my mom, Maid/Matron of Honor, aunt and grandmother… again I tried on all kinds of dresses and save the Karena Royale for last… and FIREWORKS!!! Everyone loved it!! I cried and had the total bridal moment, and then started thinking…. I wanted it to be sweet heart neckline and have buttons instead of a corset back but those changes were possible. I had said YES in my heart but didn’t buy the dress that night.
I kept thinking about the dress and about my hubbies NO NO comment about lace being old lady-like and I started to panic… I had showed pics of myself in the dress to friends and family because I hadn’t said yes officially yet and I got mixed reviews… some loved it some hated it… my dad didn’t like it and said he pictured me in a poof dress… and then the awful happened and I got into my own head and started second guessing my choice.
I made an appointment at yet another salon…. a little place with a little Portuguese woman they called the “Dress Whisperer” how could I not find a dress there right? I went with my mom and Maid/Matron of Honor and again tried on every dress possible. I found a beautiful gown from Pronovias and thought it was the ONE!! It was a beautiful satin a-line with lace appilques and ruching and buttons down the back with a beautiful full train, it was a perfect combo of what all the voices in my head wanted… so I said YES to the dress, put the deposit on it and that was that…until I couldn’t get the Karena Royale out of my head. So of coarse I started obsessively looking online at that dress and found her twin the Lorie!!
My mom thinks I should wait till my dress comes in and if I still don’t LOVE it to try on more dresses, my Maid/Matron of Honor thinks I’m completely crazy for not LOVING my dress, my hubby is so supportive about me having the perfect dress (he hasn’t seen pics of either) and I’m so confused, so here I am!! Please help!! I feel beautiful in both dresses and my day won’t be ruined in either, I just don’t want to regret my choice in the end!!

MKElsnerEST6.27.15: The Karena Royale with a sweetheart neckline gets my vote! I tried on that dress during my search and it is truly stunning.
The folds over the left hip of the other dress just aren’t doing it for me….
But of course you have to totally LOVE the dress you choose.

MKElsnerEST6.27.15: I didn’t read your whole post so I’m not sure which dress you already have but the lace one (first pic) wins hands down. It is not a competition. So I hope that’s the one you got 😉

MKElsnerEST6.27.15: The first one hands down. Your shape ain’t no joke in that dress. It looks awesome on you! I had a similar experience as yours. before going dress shopping I asked Fiance what his preference was for my dress, and he said he wasn’t really into the puffy bottoms. Well, his request coupled with the fact that I was so excited to find a beautiful, non puffy, dress on my first visit to David’s Bridal caused me to say yes to a very beautiful dress. I didn’t have dress regret, but something in my subconcious mind knew that my dream dress was in fact puffy at the bottom. Long story short, I ended up swapping out my DB Collection for a Galina Signature puffy bottom dress. I know he will love it as much as I do when he sees me in it. No matter what, you have to feel beautiful in it or you won’t be truly happy!

I’m actually not a big fan of the shape of the first one. I think it makes you look broad up top whereas the second one balances u out. maybe it will look better w a sweetheart? But truthfully, maybe neither is the one. You should wait until ur dress arrives and then decide, you still have so much time.

MKElsnerEST6.27.15: I totally get where your coming from and have almost the same story! My Fiance had make comments about not liking lace dresses, I specifically told my consultant at the salon NO lace and guess what I ended up loving… a lace fit-n-flare full of sparkle from every angle. I talked myself out of it and ended up buying a tulle ballgown but could never get that sparkly lace out of my head. Now 5 months out from my wedding I went back and got the lace dress and couldn’t be happier! I would suggest waiting for your dress and if after having it for a little bit you still feel something is missing you’ll know for sure!

I gasped at the first. Love it. The second one adds width.

Yep. The first one. Hands down.
I would stop listening to everyone else and just be happy with the dress you have in your mind. Because you’re thinking about your wedding. They’re thinking about you, in that dress now, as they see it in the picture. They don’t get your big picture and therefore can’t really make the best judgments.
Just my opinion 🙂

I love the Lorie on you! The first dress would have been great with a sweetheart neckline, and personally I’m not a fan of taffeta/satin ballgowns. The Lorie looks like my dress too! I’m sure your Fiance will hardly notice the lace, or he will forget why he disliked it in the first place! You look stunning.

I’m a little biased because my dress is ther Karena Royae with an altered sweetheart neckline but I love the karena and the Lorie on you!! I’m not a fan of the second one. It’s so easy to second guess yourself with bridal decisions but go with your gut 🙂
PS: I do like the ivory over champagne with your skin tone more than the ivory over ivory but that’s just my preference. Either will look stunning

You look beautiful in all three…any decision is the right one! I know how you feel because my fiance has an opinion, too…only he said the dress MUST be lace and not a poofy princess dress. He also requested lace sleeves…a request which I ignored because I know I look best in strapless and I don’t particularly want to be hot and itchy on my wedding day. His opinion is important, but ultimately YOU are the one wearing the dress. If you want lace, wear it. He will love you in it. I love the dress you bought and can’t really compare it to the lace dress–but of the two lace dresses, I like the second one better. The neckline and color are more flattering.

I really love the Lorie on you. I like the sweetheart neckline, and the more dramatic skirt – both very flattering elements. I like the idea of a ballgown on you too, but I think the Pronovias is too heavy, and the design is a bit dated to be very honest.
