I can’t help but notice both your inspiration pictures have added sleeves or a shrug.  Would that help?

Honestly, it looks like the dress was made for you.  It is so beautiful.  But what I think doesn’t help you at all!

bonnielass1979:  Girl the Sofia looks great on you. (We are dress twins, I’m wearing it too) I tried on a lot of Claire Pettibones and they do NOT have a lot of structure. So if you LOVE the way your Sofia fits you, I do NOT recommened spending a billion dollars on a risk. Embrace your lovely Sofia, it’s a banging dress!

Keep your gorgeous dress! i don’t think it would look bad with a capelet added so you can get the look you like. Etsy, Nordstrom, BHLDN, David’s Bridal, and many other places have gorgeous ones!!!!

OMG- I love the dress you bought! It looks fantastic on you. It’s tastefully sexy and shows off your figure. The internal structure is smooth and very flattering on you. Aside from the shape, the lace looks elegant and romantic. It’s a timeless dress that will look great in pictures. Stop second guessing! You look stunning.

I think the capelet dress is pretty but there’s no way it compares to the dress you have. I agree that the capelet is a little distracting. Plus, you want to feel comfortable and confident on your big day and a thin dress without any internal structure may not give you that feeling.

I like the dress you actually bought wayyyy more than the Claire Pettibone.

If it makes you feel any better, I actually went to the Claire Pettibone store in Los Angeles and tried on several dresses, even though I could never afford one, because I have been in love with them forever and I just wanted to know what it was like to wear one. To be honest, I was surprised to find that I didn’t love them as much in person. They just weren’t as flattering on me as on the models. So, you might not prefer the Claire Pettibone even if you got it.

Your dress is gorgeous and I think a capelet would be the perfect accent!  I like  that it would be removeable since your dress is so pretty on its own.

Etsy has tons of options for capelets, so I am sure you could find one that looks good with the lace of your dress.  The Claire Pettibone dress has a sort of “edwardian” lace style.

Another option would be to talk to your seamstress.  If your seamstress is willing and able, you can have her design a capelet like the Claire Pettibone one, but out of lace that matches your dress!  My seamstress was going to design straps and a keyhole back for my dress for $90, so I can’t imagine a capelet would be much different.

I feel in love with two dresses and bought both! One is a ball gown that I’m wearing for the ceremony and the other is a sheath for the reception. I’m still having dress regret, I’ve been looking at some vintage and vintage inspired dresses, and now I wished I got an 1920’s gown. My Fiance wants to do a vow renewal in 10 years, so I’ll plan on a vintage look in 10 years time.
