So we’re getting married on Sept 5th of this year in massachusetts and we were going to have a friend marry us.
Well we just downloaded the application for a one-day Justice of the Peace, and it says "must be received 6 weeks before the wedding date".
Has anyone had experience with this? How long does it actually take to get the license issued?

I’ve applied and received the JoP for the day in Massachusetts. It’s not the wedding license that is being issued, it’s the certificate that states that your friend can legally solemnize your marriage. Internet ordinations are not usually accepted in MA.
I applied about 2 months before the wedding, and 6 weeks before, they sent me the certificate, which needs to be return with the marriage license after the wedding.
If you have additional questions about it, you should contact the office of the governor in Boston that issues the JoP licenses.
