Our pastor has requested we have our witnesses stand up with us. We told her today there was no plan of a wedding party and she said that they need to be with us. It’s a family friend and at first I thought she was kidding but it’s really important (neccesary?) apparently…
I do not want to have bridesmaids for a variety of reasons, and I have no close family other than my slightly older brother.
I want to ask him to stand beside me. I know this is non traditional but my fiance is fine with it and my mom thinks it’s sweet although I think she’s concerned about how it looks.
My fiance would have his best guy friend stand beside him on his side.
Has anyone seen anything similar or have thoughts on it?

That’s what I’m doing! I couldn’t imagine putting anyone before my brother just because they’re a girl and he’s a guy. My fiance is having his brother and best friend of a long time beside him. So it’s an all guy wedding party but we know it’s right for us because it represents the people we each know that we have a very VERY close relationship with. My brother is also walking me down the aisle and then just staying up there after I’m “given away” by my parents.

@mandb122: Oh, perfect!!!! I’m so glad to hear it! Sounds lovely! My brother and I bickered a lot growing up but the last few years we’ve been getting closer and that’s my brother. I grew up with him. He’ll be around in 50 years and I just really can’t thing of a better person right now.

One of my friends’ chose her Maid/Matron of Honor to be her best friend – who happened to be a guy! He was the “Man of Honor”.
That’s the lovely things about weddings – You make it to reflect yourself and though there may seem to be rules, there really aren’t any. The main rule is that you and your Fiance love each other and devote your lives to each other!

At a friend’s wedding I attended this summer, the “best man” (er, best woman) was the groom’s sister. She wore a black dress to match the black tuxes the groomsmen wore. It was adorable.

If it’s what you want, go for it!
