Just broke down and ate a Subway sandwich–some people say not to eat deli meats during pregnancy so I have been staying away as long as possible. (Hope that turns out ok–a lot of my friends could care less about lysteria risk.)
Anyway, 1 year anniversary is coming up soon so I reminded Darling Husband we have to eat a piece of wedding cake from the freezer, as tradition but he said, NO WAY. I’m not eating it and you shouldn’t either. It’s probably bad for you.
I’m going to convince him to try some….good idea or bad idea? What do u think? Think he’s right? Is it worth it? I don’t know what 1 year old cake tastes like and I rarely ever eat stuff I freeze (besides fruit).

I know everyone makes their own decision about the deli meat issue but I ate it all the way through my pregnancy. I craved Jimmy Johns subs so much!
As for the cake…I can’t imagine how it would be bad for you. If it was frozen right after the wedding I can’t see how any bacteria would have grown on it. I don’t see cake as being a big risk for bacteria growth anyway.

You can heat of the deli meats and they’re fine. I’ve never heard of anyone getting sick from a year old wedding cake.

The cake should be fine. Especially if you packaged it up the right way and just after the wedding so it didn’t get freezer burn. Just make sure you defrost it for 24 hours before you try it!

Yeah, heat up the deli meats and they’re fine. In all my reading, I never saw anything about frozen cake.

To be safest, I think I’d defrost it in the fridge, not on the counter. I don’t think there’s any way you could get sick from the cake itself, but defrosting it in too warm of conditions could cause bacteria to grow.
I’ve become a little more lax about listeria, too.

My year-old wedding cake was totally worth it. I was pregnant, too, and didn’t even give it a second thought re: any food risk.

Defrost…oh yes, thanks for reminding me. 🙂 I think I can convince him to have just a bite. Can’t imagine just throwing it away and just wasting the the one-year freezer space commitment.
OH and yes, I’ll toast my sandwich the next time I get a Subway craving. Thanx, Bees!
