I’m wondering if the concerns I’m having about our photographer are an indication that maybe we should look elsewhere.
My fiance and I decided to do engagement photos with a photographer we found and liked as sort of a trial run before hiring them for the wedding. We were pretty set on going with this photographer, however. I don’t expect a lot, just some decent pictures.
After getting the engagement photos back, I’m a little disappointed for a few reasons:
1. Maybe about a fifth of the photos taken I would want to show to people and the rest I don’t think are worth even casually sharing with anyone. I was expecting more of them to have turned out nicely, but maybe I’m expecting too much? Of course some we are blinking or something, which is no one’s fault, but the majority don’t look good because of how it was shot or how we were directed to pose.
2. The ones that look good are the ones that aren’t edited. The ones that have been edited look like they were run through a cheesy Instagram filter. The photographer has raved to me about how great the edited ones turned out, but after this I think it would be better off if I edited them myself.
3. Finally, our experience has been less than professional. The first time we met with the photographer, we waited fifteen minutes after the agreed upon time before calling and asking if we had the right time and place. The photographer had forgotton about the appointment and had to rush over. Emails exchanged have been very flippant and written in a way that almost doesn’t make sense it was put together thoughtlessly. In additionally, during the engagement photo shoot, the photgrapher stopped and even asked us to move out of the way to take personal photos of other things in the area, such as a train going by, for personal purposes.
My fiance thinks we might as well just stick with this photographer but I am not so sure. Thoughts?
