My fiance and I had this great color scheme idea that we were totally loving (okay, I was totally smitten, he just approved). We are having a June 2012 wedding and we have already booked ceremony and reception venue. We got a magnificant deal on our reception venue so we are definitely keeping it.
The problem is the venue is decorated in golds, reds, and browns and our color scheme was yellow, blue, and green. Now, yellow is my favorite color so I was trying to hopefully still tie that in to a new color scheme (paler yellow like canary or corn silk), but blue and green just would clash too much with reds, golds, and browns.
We were hoping for some kind of summer theme and I am going with ivory instead of white since my dress is ivory. But I’m just not sold on any colors yet and need some help so I can tell my bridesmaids what color dress! And, I’m totally excited about bridesmaid dress shopping, especially with my Maid/Matron of Honor who is so on top of things, wedding wise.
Thank you all in advance 🙂
Here are some venue pictures:

Honestly I see no problem with keeping your current colors. If it helps go to the venue with the colors and put it up against there. Most of the pictures you have are neutrals. A few dark woods, but not overly done. I think blue and green and yellow would be fine there. But that is just my personal opinion.

I think the colors you have picked could work. The only one I question is blue, but I think yellow and green would look good.

Yellows will definitely work and greens too. Actually, it’s hard to visualize anything without the colours directly next to it, but I think it would still work. Which shades of greens and blues were you thinking of? I think a sage/olive green would look amazing in there!

Cobalt blue, lemon yellow, and olive green I think would go well together. I think brighter colors would stand up agianst the darker ones. And they are still summery. Use yellow as the predominant color and the blue and green as accents.

Could you buy inexpensive sheer ivory panels to replace the venue’s curtains? That may help you tie in your color scheme a bit more.

I think Storm’s idea of different shades would work very well. Your venue does look pretty neutral, and I guess the only way to know for sure is to visit it again with some of your colors and do a mock setup ,take pictures and see what you think.

I would stay with your original colors. The golds and brown in your venue are neutrals and the red in the furniture is a deep burgundy- most anything goes with that.
Have the wedding of your dreams.

Well, thank you everyone! i’m shocked to have such quick, helpful responses!
I was thinking of more of like a sage green because I like more pastel colors for summer. I like the idea of pale yellow, ivory, and a green.
I guess I’ll just need to get some sample colors and do a mock up like you guys suggested! I’ll see what I can do.
Thank you all so much! 🙂

The venue is pretty.
I think it is neutral enough that your colors will still work.
If you decorate the right way and with enough in your colors, it won’t matter.
Imagine if you were using a church with something other than all white inside or using a home. Same thing.
I wouldn’t sweat it and would use the colors I love.
