I have already purchased one of these dresses but won’t tell you which one. I cannot return it, but I can afford to purchase the other one if I want to, although it certainly is more money out of pocket than I was planning. But I could do it without hardship. I definitely NEVER thought I’d be a girl who ended up with two in my closet.
I feel like I might have been pressured by parent opinion to purchase the dress I purchased. But maybe I’m just being wistful and the dress I picked actually does look best on.
Both dresses would have certain alterations, which I’ll try to describe below. Hair will be up and I’ll wear a simple veil. For reference, I’m about a size 20 – 22. My stomach is my biggest problem area.
Dress #1: Satin A-Line
On this one, the straps will be narrowed a bit (kind of have them folded under to simulate that) and up on the shoudlers, not off the shoulder. It will be brought in as well. Zipper back.
Dress #2: Lace Fit & Flare
This one will have more substantial alterations (have confirmed they all can be done). A lace top/back will be added (photos below show the lace top from a dress I like and then just trying it on with a bolero to try to simulate the look), back will likely be changed to a zipper. Possibly considering having it slightly more a-line than fitted (big enough size that it can be done that way with alterations), although I don’t think it looks too bad.

I like the first one better because I don’t like the hemline of the lace on the second dress (the part of the lace that comes up to the broach on your hip). I also think the runching of the first one is more flattering on you, as well as the v-neck.

I prefer the second one on you! Much more flattering.

I have to say, I like the lace dress slightly better. I feel it does an ever so slightly better job of camoflaging your mid-section, as you mention that’s your area of concern.
Plus, I happen to have a thing for lace. I love how the sheer top you plan goes with the top of that gown.

I love the first dress on you, but ultimately it is your choice. Whichever makes you feel the most confident! Good luck 🙂

I like the second one more than the first! I really did not like the fit or the sleeves on the first one- it was not flattering to your figure!

I voted for the second one but honestly feel you could do better. Have you tried alfred angelo?

@secondchances: I have tried on a lot of dresses and have narrowed it down to these two.
Dress shopping honestly was not a great experience for me – I don’t really want to shop more.

I like the second dress better and it should look great with the alterations that you describe.

If you’re changing the back to a zipper, then I love the second dress on you. (I’m not a fan of that particular corset or how it is laying on you.) I love the strapless neckline so much more on you than the first dress with the straps.

You look lovely in both but the second dress has such a pop! Very elegant!

I prefer the second dress – it’s beautiful on you!

Thanks bees. I bought dress #1 (for only $300, so it isn’t the end of the world).
I sent it to a friend and she also preferred #2. I really liked #2 as well, but I tried it on in a size about 3 sizes too small when I was with my mom (these photos are from when I first tried it on, with my dad, and the size was closer), and that really made it look terrible. She totally swayed me away from it.
I’m planning on having #2 custom made through Jasmine’s (hence why all of those alterations aren’t a problem). They quoted me about $620. So even with both dresses, I’ll only be out less than $1k, and I can try to sell Dress #1 to someone who will love it more than me.
Dress #1 is out for a repair on the zipper right now, but I’ll get it back on October 11th, try it on one more time, and then order #2 if I’m not totally in love with the first one. I’ll hold onto it until I get #2 and have decided I love it.
Argh! Just goes to show you need to trust your gut and not get too many opinions.

Dress number 2 is my dream dress but way out of my budget. I’m so jealous! I tried it on and fell in love, so obviously you know which one I’m picking.

I like the second dress better – partly because it looks beautiful on you but also because the straps of the first dress look really tight and uncomfortable under the arms. I know that can be ameded but that just happens to be something I really dislike when I buy clothes for myself.
