I had the same problem.  We (and by “we” I mean “I” because FH doesn’t really care where the venue is or so I thought) wanted something unique.  No hotels, restaurants or country clubs.  Not saying that we could afford a country club mind you.  My advice – keep looking!  The right venue is out there somewhere.  You will find it!  I searched the internet more hours than I will ever admit to looking for a venue.  And then, about 1 a.m. on a weeknight, there it was.  The venue.  I really liked it and knew my FH would too.  When we looked at it he loved it!  This was when I realized he did care about the venue.  He’s a keeper!  Good luck with your search!

I agree. It’s kinda like finding the dress. You just KNOW. I looked at over 20 venues. I live near SF so there are many many options. I passed up my venue at least 30 times cause it seemed too expensive. But one night we were about to give up and go to Vegas and the lady called us back and it was $8500 but she went down to $3400!!! I was in love when I walked in and because we had gone to SO many venues we knew this was the one!Dont give up. It’s out there!

@Bessica92113:

I had a really hard time too. I spent countless hours doing google searches and started to feel really defeated. I stumbled across one great venue in my search that I assumed was too expensive so I just moved on. A couple weeks later, a friend of a friend emailed me to suggest I check out that venue. So I decided to call, and everything about it was perfect, including the price, and FH loved it too!

I’m in Michigan too, and I was looking all over the state, including northern Michigan (my parents live in Onaway, but I was open to any part of the state really). What kind of venue are you looking for, and in what area? Maybe there are some I found in my endless searching that you might like?

@Bessica92113: Oh, and I guess my advice for you would be, don’t give up, and think outside of the box. Think about places like barns, orchards, farms, bed and breakfasts, and other unique types of places where a wedding could be held, and do google searches with key terms, and keep in mind that changing the search terms just a little can give you different results. Also, look at area photographers’ websites for weddings they have shot, you might get venue ideas there. You can also do google searches for wedding blogs that feature styles you’re looking for, and include Michigan or even “Northern Michigan” in your searches. Like… vintage wedding “northern Michigan”.

Good luck!

I’m having a lot of problems. I found somewhere for my ceremony, but everywhere to have a reception around it is either ridiculously over priced (think $20, 000 minimum), or you have to be a resident of the town. I really want to use something that will let me bring in my own catering because I know that will help me cut costs.
