My fiance and I are planning on going to Oahu (we want to see Pearl Harbor) and Maui, but we are debating on which island to visit for our third trip…Kaui or the Big Island. Any recommendations??? Why?
I love the beach and my fiance loves golf. We both want to things in Hawaii like see a volcano (which I’m told we can do on Maui or the Big Island), go to a Luau, and do water-based activities (snokel, parasail,) etc.
It’s a good problem to have…but please HELP!

Unfortunately I won’t be too much help since I’ve yet to visit either island (we’re planning a trip to the Big Island this spring though!), but I will point out that although Mt. Haleakala on Maui is a volcano, it isn’t currently erupting like Kilauea is on Hawaii. So that may or may not influence your decision — I know it has mine, I can’t wait to see lava haha. However Kauai does have Waimea Canyon, the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific,” which is supposed to be breathtaking. And now I know I’m not helping at all lol. Good luck on deciding!!

I can’t speak for Big Island, but we chose to get married in Kauai for good reasons! It’s gorgeous (very lush and green), more mellow/laid back, does NOT feel touristy, beautiful beaches, lots of outdoor activity (hiking, snorkeling, boat tours of the napali coast, etc).
But if you’re interested in volcanoes and lava, sounds like Big Island is your best bet!
