    I have been to sandals Antigua and loved it! Small resort and romantic. We booked sandals grande st Lucia for our honeymoon. I heard great things from friends and hear it resembles Hawaii.

    @danilynn72:  We just got off a cruise for our honeymoon, and we definitely did not feel rushed… as long as you make sure to have plenty of “me” time in the room with each other, you don’t even notice anyone else.

    @danilynn72:  What are your dates?  Maybe they are booked?  Are you lpoking for a specific place on the island or anywhere?  Even if you book for $100 a night all the flights you want to take to island hop will add up.  What is your budget?

    We had a fabulous honeymoon in Hawaii for about $4,500 for 9 days and nights at the Westin Maui Resort.  We got a great deal by booking an air/hotel/car package online through Pleasant Holidays, which I found through the Westin website.  (Google them to find their website and go there directly.)  We got a great oceanview room for about $90/night (compared to $350-400 if you book with the hotel directly) and a Hertz rental car for $100 for 9 days.  It’s definitely possible to do 10 days in Hawaii for less than the $8k you were quoted.  Have fun on your honeymoon wherever you end up!

    I am in love with the US virgin islands. If you go to st Thomas, you are a short ferry ride from St. John, as well as several British islands. So in theory, you can visit multiple places. St Thomas has notre of the shopping and nightlife, etc., while St. John has more of a natural feel that’s perfect for outdoor adventures.

    Land the locals are fantastic! I’d move there in a New York minute if I could. And I felt completely safe leaving the resort (I wouldn’t go somewhere that I couldn’t….that’s the best part to me…exploring and going where the locals go instead of where the tourists go).

    There are several AI resorts that are incredible.

    Also, I’ve used vrbo on many occasions and have always been happy.

    Also, you can easily rent a car, but we didn’t. It was super easy to get around the island via taxi and the “safari buses” that the locals use…goes around the island in a loop and only costs $1 to ride. We met some awesome locals that way too.

    I vote jamaica and couples negril.   Sooooo much to do there.   The island is so lush and the people are great.   Couples barbados just opened In June so they are obviously still working out the kinks and there is still construction going on.

    @danilynn72:

    Yeah that would be fine. I would pick either maui or kauai though and not try to squish both in.

    Here are a few condos that aren’t super pricey!

    http://www.vrbo.com/35306 ($100 if you book within 30 days of leaving, however, it’s getting close.. I bet you could swing a deal!)

    http://www.vrbo.com/28045 ($102 or 129 a night)

    http://www.vrbo.com/220015 ($98 – 129/night)

    I am pretty sure these are all in West Maui. That’s where I have stayed and I like it! Some people prefer South Maui but West Maui has Lahaina and Kannipali which are both really nice. Plus south maui is only like 45 min or so away. I didn’t check if the dates are available.. it might be hard to book so last minute. You could also message people are are saying ~$200/night that have their condo’s last min and offer them $100. They might accpet since their condo would be sitting empty anyways.

    Honestly, when I am in Hawaii I really only sleep and cook in the condo we are out and about most of the time! It’s not worth spending tons and tons of money on something fancy!

    @danilynn72:  I would definitely see if you can visit the Virgin Islands. I loved it there. And my parents went to Tortola, which is a BVI and it looks so pretty. It’s definitely on my bucket list.

    Also, apparently booking through Costco can save you some money on a Hawaii honeymoon. To be honest, I haven’t looked into it yet (we only just agreed into checking to see if we can make Hawaii an affordable place to go) but a consultant at FI’s job did it, and said he saved a few thousand dollars. 🙂
