I was due 2/22/20 with my first baby but started bleeding about a week ago on June 30. HCG levels were in the 800 range at my first appt on June 26. While at the emergency room for the bleeding (on June 30) my levels came back in the 700 range, which confirmed the MC. On 7/2 HCG was down to 100. Bleeding stopped completely by 7/5. We have been unprotected having sex since before my bleeding stopped.. oops!
I am reading that you cannot ovulate if you still have HCG in your system, but if that is true how do women fall pregnant immediately after a MC (miscarriage) without having a period? I refuse to buy an OPK, but how in the world do you know when you will ovulate after an early MC?! I wasn’t tracking ovulation prior to the pregnancy so this is all so new to me! I feel a void in my family and i just want to fill it with our rainbow baby so badly. Any help, advice, guidance or just stories of your experiences would be greatly appreciated.

mommywishes : I am very sorry for your loss! I have had 2 losses myself before having our now 8 month old daughter. From my understanding and take this with a grain of salt as I am not a doctor is that you wont ovulate until the hcg is down to 0 or very low. Some women have a miscarrage and their hcg drops down immediately hence they can ovulate. Some women it takes a while for hcg to drop. For my second loss it took almost 3 months for my levels to drop down to 0! It was so frustrating!! Sounds like yours are dropping much faster then mine did and it wont be long now! I wish you the best of luck!! Also did you ask your doctor when it is safe to ttc again? It seems some doctors advise their patients to wait a full cycle and some say it’s ok to start asap! I think not depends on the individual case. Again best of luck to you!

candy08 : My doctor has said that since I lost the baby so early and wont need a D&C, its safe to try again right away, although it is better (for dating purposes only) to wait until i’ve had one period. However, the waiting is already killing me and since we’ve already ready been having sex i guess we are ttc again. I’ve heard of so many women who get pregnant again without having a period first and I want so badly to be apart of that group! Thanks so much for your reponse and well wishes. It helps to know things can get better becuase they seem so darn bleak right now.

Your HCG drops pretty fast when the levels are that low. With my first MC, I ovulated about 16 days after I started bleeding. With my second MC, I ovulated 10 days after I started bleeding. Which resulted in my current twin pregnancy. (We were not trying to get pregnant after the 2nd miscarriage but I ovulated so early it just happened, oops).
I know this is super tough to go through, and I’m so sorry. Fingers crossed you get your rainbow baby soon!

mommywishes : sorry for your loss! Before my first baby I had an ectopic pregnancy, and they tested my HCG weekly until it was zero. I took a couple months off TTC because of the meds for resolving the ectopic, but I was still temping and doing opks because I wanted to track my cycle. I ovulated 8 days after my blood draw with a zero HCG. Now it might’ve been at zero a few days before that since I was just doing weekly blood draws, but it was somewhere around 8-12 days after reaching zero if I had to guess. I’m sure it’s different for everyone, but for me I had to get to zero before ovulating. Good luck! I hope you’re able to conceive again quickly!!

mommywishes : sorry for your loss. You can still ovulate but the HCG would have to be very low.

I had a miscarriage in December at what should have been 10 weeks. The miscarriage started on the Dec 25th. I carried on doing pregnancy tests to check my levels were dropping. I got a very faint positive test on Jan 10th and a negative on Jan 12th. I conceived my current pregnancy on Jan 16th.
So sorry for your loss and hope you get your sticky baby soon!

MancBee : Do you recall when your bleeding stopped? Just wondering what the connection is between bleeding and hcg levels… Thanks!

I’m so sorry you are dealing with this. I had a chemical last month and miscarried at 6 weeks. I did IVF to get pregnant, so I was having a lot of bloodwork. My clinic was very clear that I needed to keep getting bloodwork done until my HCG went down to zero. I had to get bloodwork done 7 times, but it finally went down to 0 a week after I miscarried.

My HCG was 1100 at my MC. I went to the doctor for a blood drawn a week later, and it was 34. Four days after, it was 15. My doctor asked that I come back until it came to 0, but honestly, it was falling so normally and the blood drawn hours so inconvenient, I decided not to go.
My doctor told us not to try until I had a normal cycle. It took me 6 weeks to have a normal cycle, so I doubt I ovulated early during that cyle.
FWIW, I only bled for like 2-3 days after my MC. Day 1 was incredibly heavy and painful, day 2 was like a light flow, and day 3 was just spoitting. I don’t know if there’s a correlation between when or how long you bled and how fast your HCG falls. The only way to tell for sure is to have a blood draw.
