- Wedding: August 2013
I had been hinting around for a while that I was ready to be engaged; we even started talking about wedding stuff.
We met online and have been together for 16 months. Unfortunately, we are also 8 hours apart (although we do tend to spend a lot of time together). The plan was to have already closed the distance but when we found out he had injured his back it put everything on hold including the move, so the last thing I was expecting was a proposal. Mom took me shopping for a ring a couple months ago and I picked out several, then she took me out again and I narrowed it down. Mom ended up talking with my sweetie and behind my back bought the ring and planned the proposal.
I had already decided that I was going to go up and visit his family for thanksgiving, and his family invited my mom and dad to come along. I was secretly hoping that he was going to propose since my family also got invited, but mom assured me it wasn’t going to happen because the ring hadn’t come in yet. So thanksgiving comes and goes and no proposal happens, I was disappointed because I had still hoped. Then came black friday. I knew we were going to go shopping and I knew he wasn’t going to propose in that madness. I mentioned something about not wanting to get super dressed up for Saturday because we had to leave at the crack of dawn. He immediately said that I needed to. That of course didn’t sit well with me because I didn’t feel like it. He again said I should because something special might happen. Well that made me mad! I knew for a fact that he wasn’t going to propose, mom even told me so and I thought it was completely unfair that he would tease me like that. We got into a fight, but in the end he won and I put my make-up on for Saturday in Chicago. Saturday came I got up early and put make-up on and we went to Chicago for the day. We went to macy’s and I joked with him that he should propose on Santa’s lap since that was my Christmas wish. Little did I know he already had something planned. We finish at Macy’s and go to another place. Then he says he wants to take me to Millennium park and show me something. I didn’t think anything of it because I had only been to Chicago one other time and I figured he just wanted to show it to me since we were only 2 blocks away. As we were walking I kept thinking he might propose, but I knew he wouldn’t without the ring and I was still absolutely sure that he didn’t have the ring. He walk the couple blocks to Millennium park and by this time it is raining. We got there and are standing at the ice skating rink. I was so excited because I wanted to go ice skating and have told him so a hundred different times. Well we couldn’t go ice skating because of the rain. So we walk up the steps by the bean and there is suppose to be this giant Christmas tree. I’m kinda obsessed with Christmas. Well there is no Christmas tree because they hadn’t set it up yet. It was also suppose to snow and he knew how much I loved snow. So we are just standing there talking and he starts saying sweet things which doesn’t surprise me because its something he does everyday anyway. Then I see him start to fumble in his coat pocket, and pulls out nothing. He waited a few minutes and fumbled in his second coat pocket and pulled out a box he said this isn’t what I planned in fact this is plan c. That’s when I instantly knew. He got down on one knee (in a puddle of rain while it was pouring), I started jumping up and down (splashing him even more) and before he could even ask the question I shouted YES! He asked and I said yes again!
We gathered a crowd and got claps and shouts. But honestly I don’t even remember them being there. Some nice guy who i think was a professional photographer took pictures and promised to send them (which we’re still waiting on). And our families were there. In my eyes it was perfect! Later he told me the original plan about how he was going to take me ice skating and then propose with the snow falling by the giant christmas tree, and how he almost postponed it until Christmas. I’m glad he didn’t and I couldn’t be happier!!
Later that night when we got back to his hometown we all celebrated with the rest of the family. But we can’t wait to celebrate with my family at Christmas time.
