I’m very excited to announce that my then boyfriend is now my fiancée! He proposed right next to our christmas tree in the comfort of our own home. It was low key and intimate… Just like I always hoped it would be. People already have been asking I’ve set a date. Every time I say it probably won’t be for a couple of years, they seem so shocked! Is being engaged for two years really that unusual? I just want to take my time planning and not stress too much. What do you guys think? Anyway, here’s a pic of my ring. I just wanted to share because i absolutely love it! It’s what I’ve always wanted. Blue nile did a wonderful job!

@amanda2574: congrats! Gorgeous ring! I thought our engagement was a bit long for us (15 months) and I feel like I just got engaged! Time flies… Only 10 months now and I am not stressed. I think it’s fine To have long one.

@amanda2574: that’s beautiful! Congrats! Our engagement was a little over a year and a half and everyone told us the same thing “why are you guys waiting so long” “18 months?! Why don’t u get married sooner?!” But in all honestly the time has flowN by! We’ve been able to save and plan everything gradually making sure it’s what we wanted and not having to stress over it! Now were 4 1/2 months away and I can’t believe it’s around the corner! Enjoy being engaged… I loved that we could enjoy it without having to stress more than necessary for the wedding!

@amanda2574: First and foremost as this is your DEBUT Post on WBee… a BIG Welcome to “the Hive”
I am a bit of an “Etiquette Snob… lol” here on WBee…
So altho there is nothing wrong with a longer Engagement, the traditional norm is about a year, as that is the amount of time it typically takes to organize a Traditional BIG White Pouffy Family Wedding
The idea behind an Enagagement, is that a couple is “actively” planning… so yes, some would find it odd to be Engaged and not working on the details (booking things) etc
Hope this helps,

Beautiful ring! Congratulations on your engagement! We were engaged for almost two years before we got married, and I think it was the perfect amount of time to plan!

Beautiful! Take your time with the planning process! We took 6 mo to do nothing except enjoy being engaged. I did no planning during this time.
Our entire engagement was about 1.5 yrs and perfect for us.

@amanda2574: First of all, beautiful ring and congrats!! That sounds like a very sweet and perfect proposal, IMO!! Secondly, Fiance and I kinda decided to do the same thing in extending our engagement so that we could spend a few months just enjoying being engaged without having to stress about planning immediately. When I tell people that our wedding won’t be until sometime in June of 2015 (we got engaged this past August), they ALL give me such a strage look and ask “why so far away??” I’ve learned to just ignore it and explain briefly that we are planning a destination wedding and trying to enjoy a relaxed planning process 🙂 Besides we figure we have the rest of our lives to be married and enjoy that part, why wouldn’t we want to enjoy the engagement part of it for a while? 🙂 doesn’t bother us at all, and we know how we feel (it’s not being extended due to any doubts about our feelings for each other or wanting to be married to each other — which is what I think some people do wonder). My advice would be to just ignore others’ comments or questions and just enjoy this time in your relationship. It will only ever happen once 🙂

Gorgeous ring! Congrats!
Don’t worry about the length of the engagement. It’s about the journey, not the destination. We’ll be engaged for almost 2 years by the time we get married and I’m very happy with the decision. We’ve been able to plan at a comfortable pace and I haven’t felt very stressed or pressured. Also, you can get some great deals by booking vendors early 🙂
