This Saturday we had our engagement photos & we were soo nervous about them- we’ve never had professional pictures taken before! We spent weeks upon weeks getting ready for this so the anticipation was crazy thick…
I woke up Saturday morning to have my hair cut before we left- I swear I have the worst luck when it comes to my hair. I asked the lady to just trim it up & then I was going to put in my curlers myself before I left so my hair would be dry & curly by 4pm when I needed to leave. She decided that since I was paying her for my cut she may as well put the curlers in too. I had a feeling to just say no & do it myself but I figured she’s a pro- she knows what she’s doing- right? Wrong! It took her about ½ an hour to put in 10 curlers, then she put me under the dryer & told me I was good to go another 10 minutes later. Tells me to keep on my shower cap until I’m ready to leave for the pics. That was about 9am– so at 3 I take off the cap to reveal my gorgeous soft curls & get—- wet hair, like really sopping wet…. So I had a bit of a mini breakdown, throwing rollers across the bathroom as I took them out, cursing under my breath at my stupidity for trusting my hair to a complete stranger- yet again- my hair fiasco’s are never ending. You’d think after living here for 4 ½ years I’d have found a good hairstylist by now =(
So I ended up with my signature look- flat ass straight hair, with pretty much no styling- by that point we were already running late. To make it worse it was a super windy day so my straight hair was all over the place for the pics, whereas my curls would have weighted it down a bit… BOOOO
Once I got over the hair fiasco we were ready to hit the road up to Trinidad, a short ½ hour drive up the coast. We were so happy b/c the day ended up being absolutely gorgeous- predictions called for a chance of rain & possibly very cloudy- but it cleared up the entire day! We met our photographer, Jennifer of JJT Photo, & talked about the plan of action. My Fiance had been asking all morning about the order of the photo locations. We knew some at the beach, then lighthouse, then a cliff overlooking the coastline, but he REALLY wanted to know the exact order for some reason.
The light was still super bright (thanks to our gorgeous day) so the photographer switched our order, ending at the beach for sunset instead of beginning there. We had great fun trying to “look natural” while my Fiance kept saying “High Fashion” nearly every time the shutter clicked… Can you tell we’re ANTM fans? It’s hard to not do the ‘ugly laugh face’ when he says things like that…
We ended our session at Trinidad State Beach, my favorite beach, with a picnic & champagne at sunset. My Fiance says that he wants to get the traditional down on one knee picture for the family (we did things backwards & set a date and booked our venues before the ring/proposal). So I’ve got my head all up in the clouds from all the excitement & tell him sure, I think they’d love that. But really all I was thinking about was getting that champagne open- I was ready for some celebratory drinks!
Next thing I know he’s on bended knee & pulling a black velvet box out of his pocket (which I thought was a prop for the pics!)– he says “Rebecca Marie will you marry me” & opens the box to reveal a gorgeously sparkly ring. I was so confused at first, I thought it was all part of the pretending for the pics! All I could say was “is it real- is it mine?” He was tooo convincing about the whole thing being pretend!
He thought it was hilarious & said I had the most confused look on my face when I saw the ring. But once it hit me that it was mine & he actually just proposed on one knee- at the beach- at sunset- with our photographer taking pics- I just melted…. I said yes, & big hugs & kisses ensued. I actually forgot we even had someone there photographing us for a little bit. Then it was time to bust out the champagne & get some ring pics!
After our photographer left we stuck around at the beach watching the last of the sunset, sippin our champagne- oohing & aahing over the whole thing. He was a bit bummed that it was a half size too big, but we both wanted me to wear it so bad we just tapped up the back to make it work for the night. We went out for dinner, where we both couldn’t stop admiring the new bling from all possible angles. Followed by a concert & stumbling back to our shop to- uh- sleep?- ya, we’ll go with that (smart cookies- we brought the air mattress so we could both celebrate).
The rest of the weekend was amazing- taking in what had just happened & how real it all suddenly felt. We could not keep our hands off each other all weekend long =)
Time for some ring porn! He did an AMAZING job- he said we would pick it out together but he just couldn’t wait once he saw this one. Emerald cut center stone, 4 princess cuts on each side of the band, 18K White Gold, total weight I think is around .7ish carats. He purchased it used, which means he got a great deal- which makes me SUPER happy (I’m hate paying retail for anything):
