I’m in a similar situation, Fiance even proposed while we were cuddling in bed so it feels like I wrote this post. Sometimes (when I’m on weddingbee) I feel like I want a ring, but I know it’s a better investment to spend that money on the wedding.

Of course I have advantage because in my culture and engagement ring it’s not a must so no one asks about the ring, they just guess I might not have one at all.

Focus in the fact that you’re marrying this guy, you can always get a ring later Smile.

@shawndy: “he must not care much about her.” seriously, these women are jealous b&tches. Just think, pretty soon you’ll be married to a man who loves you to bits. But no matter how much time passes they’ll still be insignificant twits with hearts the size of a pin. No man can really love a witch like that, no matter how big a diamond he gets her.

You win.

My engagement began–and ended–without a ring.  We exchanged rings for the first time at the marriage ceremony.  And I couldn’t be happier!

If you’re on a budget, maybe mention getting a CZ ring. A lot of them are under $25 and they look just as amazing as expensive rings. I can understand how some people can’t understand an engagement being “official” without the “offical symbol,” but that’s really not what it’s about. It’s about the love you guys have for each other and your intentions about your future. Unfortunately, a lot of people are more materialistic and focus on that. There’s definitely nothing wrong with a pretty ring, but there’s more to an engagement than that. I would maybe talk to your fiancé about getting a temp ring if it’s important to you. Try overstock or amazon. Down the road, you can always upgrade. πŸ™‚ Or just keep the temp ring and make it permanent.

@shawndy:  Why not just get a moissanite?  What sort of ring do you want?  Mall jewellery stores are going to overcharge you for diamonds.  If you want a diamond, buy online for sure.  If you are considering non-diamond stones, you can get a beautiful moissanite for under $1000.00 (check out moissaniteco – moissanites look like diamond.  they really, really do. )

I’m assuming a good quality mood ring would be like 80-100 bucks?  You can get a 1ct moissanite solitaire ring for under $600.00

Or get a purple stone!  Like an alexandrite.  Erings don’t have to be diamonds.  (or get your moodring placeholder – I was just trying to offer suggestions for “real” non-placeholder rings, that would be in your budget possibly).
